Hey Octavious, Love the car, and see that you are local (I'm in Oak Ridge). I am new to the area, and know next to nothing about any shops around here, but thought I'd rattle on anyway. I saw a shop off Lovell Rd. that at least took the time to put up nice Porsche murals. I imagine that's one you are considering. Best of luck.
If you are bucks up, maybe consider someone not local? I'm thinking of the guy in California who helped the Home Built by Jeff guy. I'm sure it would cost a mint, but be a good engine.
I don't suppose you are the local DJ Octavious, are you?
Party on, man.
LOL man. DJ?!?!? Not me.
The local air cooled shop is run by a guy named Don. I met him the other day and he seemed pretty cool.
I've gotten two quotes for rebuilding if the long block. Both were more than I paid for the car...
I picked this up this week. Long block rebuild by local air cooled shop. Camshafts has to be reground so now it has 964 camshaft grind for more power. I've started assembling, but cleaning all parts before they are out on.
Slowly but slowly...

In reply to octavious :
Cool! What's the displacement?
Great to see the new engine, hopefully this one is the last one :-)
Also glad that early 911's are out of my budget as I have always wanted one but I only want to rebuild it once.
Great car and can't wait to see it back on the road.

It is the same engine as before, just much much cleaner. Lol.
Luckily I got mine when nobody wanted them and prices weren't stupid crazy. Sadly the long block rebuild cost more than I paid for the car.
So I've had a few days off and tried to get the car running.
I got the engine put back together and installed in the car a month or so ago. But needed to order some new parts and those had to come in.
This is what I got done:
Fresh gas
Additional gas treatment added just in case
Oil added (10 quarts)
Oil filter changed
Air filter changed
Engine connections
Oil line connections
Transmission connections
O2 sensor rewired
RS door panels
LED brake lights
Seat removed/cleaned/replaced
Seat sliders lubed
DME removed, disassemble, computer chip replaced, reassembled, and replaced
Headlight relay fixed
Trunk carpet piece installed
CV removed, rebuilt, replaced (longest project of the week)
Door catches removed/new bushings/replaced
I've had the battery on the tender, but haven't put it in the car yet. Rained here yesterday and supposed to rain solid for the next few days. Then I am planning to start it and do the initial break in. After that it seems to be recommended to drive it. But it needs rear tires, so I really need a nice day to do the start up and drive.
Beauty work.
I figured you weren't the DJ from the local Classic Rock station, but you never know.
Keep chugging along. Sweet ride.
