Just read this all the way through and WOW you are patient. Seems like it was worth the work though - I have a (very clapped out, at this point) Montero and love the EVOs but way outta my price range.
my In-Laws live near Fullerton, next time we're in So Cal I might ping you and try to bring something fun to drive; I strugle to find good roads out there and have gone out for drives by myself when I'm out there visiting :P
UPDATE:
So go to AAA (office is empty) so they can verify VIN
woman does it. Super nice sunny day. Shes very friendly. ten minutes it is completed.
Comes inside to her desk, types all the info in: “your fees are not right”
Me: what I was just here yesterday?!!!
Her: your car is registered in Kern county (few hundred miles away) and our employee yesterday inserted wrong county code
Me: sigh - I am thinking THIS CAR doesn't want to be on the road legally! WTF
Her: lets add some fees and get it done
mE: Charge me whatever you want.
Plated and home - wow what an ordeal.
NOW I can take it to the twisties this weekend!!

Thanks Matt! Yeah ordeal doesn't end! Fighting me all the way.
I love the Montero/Pajero (depends on generation). Great rides.
Your inlaws are 1 hour south of me. PING me when in town. Looking forward to it. There are too many good roads here (well not in fullerton LOL)
After all these problems, decided to reward myself with a In N Out Shake. Pull into In N Out (same one I am going since 1992). - In N Out is closed FOR CONSTRUCTION!!!
WOW this car hates me!

I mean, it's kinda your fault now that you rolled the windows down...
Glad there looks to be a light at the end of the tunnel. What a saga!
you said it was posted with two bad pictures - where did they list it??
Man... what a journey.
Just read through this whole thing. I would have not even gotten on the plane!
But you saw it through. Those are really fun cars; I knew a guy who had one of those when they were brand new and even stock it ran circles around my modded WRX wagon at the time. Even though it seems cursed, I hope you have the best of luck with it!

Actually I didn't! My plan was NOT to go through drive through - just pull in, grab a shake and head home. However, I HAVE rolled windows down 3 times in my ownership. Maybe I am being punished

Where old people list things. Autotrader :)
Surprised it wasn't on Pennysaver.
BTW how is your BRONCO? My evo was part of my bronco profit. She gone to a weed farmer in S. Carolina who paid huge bucks to get it :)

Hey Tony! How are you? Thanks for the nice words.
I do wonder why did I get on a plane. It isn't my usual ammo, and most times I wouldn't have gotten on a plane without much hard evidence the car existed. I could totally be a victim of a scam and not the other way around.
I am still in mental shock a nd haven't had time to process much. Maybe they were the one's playing mind games and just made me want it more? Maybe it was just the challenge? Maybe it was let's see what happens?
I mean as EVO was never a dream car of mine. I was a subaru guy - bought many - cried - never will own those POS again. That said it wasn't a dream Diablo 6.0 SE or anything like that. Sure they are rare and hard to find in this condition, but it was a lot of effort to do it.
Don't get me wrong - the car is fantastic and I am very happy with it.
Hope the curse is lifted and I get to enjoy it for years to come.
I feel like I'm getting old. Now an EVO has become the millennial equivalent to the Boomer holy grail, 69 Camaro. "I/my buddy Bill had one just like this back in high school except for ------."
For the record. I never had one. But wanted one bad in my DSM days.

Sad part is....when I see cars on BAT and say to myself "I remember when these were new..."
sign of age.....sigh..... father time always wins

I hate the graphite gray. Would have loved a white/red, but it is what it is.
Really? I like it. Don't ever tell the old owner...
