Fluids need to be changed every 30K - pretty normal for I do for my fleet.

Timing belt/water pump every 60K - first time ever I had a JDM car for such low intervals.

Nice. Yeah 60K has been the norm for a while for Mitsubishi.  I'll probably have to do mine soon too.

Maybe one of these day's I'll have to toss in the ear plugs and come cruise the hills of LA with you. You'll probably pull away from me on the straights but I know the scrappy mirage will pull a little over 1.1G in the corner with some sticky tires on it. Make the hills alive with the sound of Mivec.

Yes, definitely this weekend. Having said that, given what we saw of the belt next to your house on the inspection, its gonna be perfectly fine. That siad, I rather overmaintain :)

Hope all is well back at home.

You will get a kick out of this, ex owner of EVO sent me text yesterday, "Hope you are taking care of the car, and she didn't get wet in the rains you guys had."  I sent him the above pic and he was happy to see a dry EVO.

I am used to the 90k/120K  T belt interval.  Though after doing a few Lexus LS and Land Cruisers for a while, I decided to buy only chain driven cars, which is mostly the fleet, except of course the EVO.

Well it will be a fun experience.

Be fun to run around with you. In my old age, I take it easy in the hills, so a base corolla can probably walk me. I am just out here enjoying, though if I run into Farah/Magnus walker, I just let them pass. I try to go at a time, no one is around really.

MIVEC for life? Wow sounds so silly! LOL

Wow, that is substantially more than a DSM timing belt kit.  However even DSM part prices have crept up fast in the last decade.  Parts like the front case and oil pump are just wild in comparison to 10 years ago.

Still that is money well spent, especially to stick to OEM Mitsubishi parts.  Should run for a very long time in your capable hands.

Thank you sir. Yeah the parts OEM are pretty expensive, but would like to stick to it. As you said, you do it once, and its good for a while.  Parts prices have really gone up there as well.

There are aspects of the EVO that make me want to own one before I'm priced out of the market. Oops...I missed that boat.  Maybe an EVO X if I can get my act together.  An X-GF of mine ordered an STI when they were first released.  I loved that she preferred me to drive when we went places.  The boxster bogged a bit, but was also way too fast for me to drive to work with any regularity.  I was young (24) & underappreciated certain aspects of that relationship.  20-20 is hindsight.

Back when they were ~$20k all day I considered it sneaking it by current SWMBO by saying it's just a commuter sedan.  I could have pulled it off, but my 100-mile a day commute would have been nonsensical with an EVO. The number of "built" EVOs for sale on their 2nd or 3rd "build" was kind of comical at the time.  I have zero interest in driving a 500hp built EVO; However, a bone-stock car that's been maintained sounds like fun.

EVO X due to how many made, etc, can be had for great prices. If you like em, I would get one of those.   As far as how many miles you drive a day, mpg, its all relative.  I have commuted 80 miles a day in a H1, and have done 20K miles a year with an Elise as an only car. Whatever floats your boat - life is too short.

I have also done 1 year in a CT200h, to save money. It sucked my soul, worse than getting AIDS from a ladiboi in Bankok. Never again...

If you are patient, there are 1 owner non modded, higher miles cars out there.  I have had plenty of modded cars, and my EVO is staying stock, just like I like this one.  I would like to end my ownership with lots of miles, stock car, and lots of enjoyment some day.

This guy paid $57,000 for this car . https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evom-new-member-faqs-evom-rules/764597-new-here-15k-mile-evo-mr.html. I saw this car, and didn't want it due to repaint and all the mods. But there is always a buyer.... Hes fully modding it. He would have been better buying a $90K BaT EVO all done.

the boostbeast is looking great man!  still so thrilled you found this one and your ownership goals.  its such a special car, couldn't have found a better buyer.  looks right at home there tucked in with the elise.

any big drives planned with it or mostly just blow off some steam in the local hills?

you reminded me of a time about 15 years ago (i'm starting to sound like some dusty old fart now) in Atlanta when I still had my 2.5RS.  sitting in traffic (an Atlanta tradition), and i see a bright red Evo 8 RS pull up beside me in the next lane over.  we both looked over and started chatting it up for a minute until the light turned.   i just remember how happy he was with the car.  definitely an acquired taste for some, but it made me think...i've heard a lot of people lament DSM quality from the 90's but almost nobody who's owned an Evo has talked about wishing they'd never see their old one again.  thirsty and expensive sometimes but always talk about what a thrill they were.

Thanks my friend! Missed ya around here. Yeah I am thorougly enjoying the car! Its been a blast.

No big drives yet, lots of steam in the local hills and she is doing fantastic. Summer time, I am sure I will do something big, like the Si I put 5K miles on roadtrips ifyou recall.

I loved me some 2.5RS. Only Subaru I didn't own. In covid, I almost bought one, met up with guy, all good, then googled vin, it was a crashed rebuilt car for retail price. I said no thanks and walked away.

As you know I hate DSM and their low quality junk. I loved me a late 80s Pajero, which was bulletproof when our family had it.

I know now I sound like a fanboi because I own one (blah blah) - but as you know, I am pretty anal when it comes to quality etc. As lot of the original owner Evo owners I am talking to still (most have 911 in their garage which is very interesting), I think the Evo is built to a different engineering standard. No way Mitsu made money on any of the cars.  I know mine is rock solid (feeling), no squeaks or rattles. I have owned plenty of lexus/honda/toyota in my life.  The EVO doesn't have the lexus luxury, but the build quality is up there for sure. It really isn't a crap DSM/Nissan that I can't tolerate.

Is the maintenance more pricey than standard japanese? 100%. $480 water pump will tell you that.

Is it thirsty for a 4 door sedan? Sure.

However, the fun/$ ratio and the driving feel is heavenly.

If you love to drive, and appreciate a true scalpel - and you have a family this is it. If I didn't have a family I wouldnt be caught dead in a 4 door car.

But to me, the Evo is truly a 4 door Elise, and I can't give a higher compliment (just turned year 16 with the Elise) - so it isn't like I am reading magazine articles and regurtitating.  Albeit the Elise maintenance is a lot cheaper than the EVO. Hah!

Usually 60-90 days when I start wanting to sell the cars. I am going to be almost 4 months in, and car will have 5K miles before month is over. I don't see selling this at all. It really is that good.

Hope all is well with the family.
