I'll end up regretting this, but it's time to pass it on to someone that will appreciate it.
What we have here is a 1980 Triumph Spitfire, sort of.
The car was originally built by Mike Smith (Curmudgeon) for the 2006 Challenge, with a mind of running it in SCCA E-Mod Autocross class afterward. It has several SCR-SCCA E-Mod Autocross Championships to its name as well as a pile of first places and a few FTDs. Mike also competed in several hill climbs with it.
Power comes from a Mazda Rotary 12a. Dellorto side draft carburetor. Racing Beat Intake. Custom header, built out of a Racing Beat Kit. FB all aluminum radiator, plate oil cooler, all electric fans running on thermostats.
Front suspension is Mazda Miata uprights, brakes, hubs, custom build A-arms, Yamaha R1 shocks. Diamond Racing 13X8 wheels with aged out Hankook C71 tires. The rack has been shortened.
Rear suspension is Miata sub-frame and center section, LSD, custom built axles, custom built A-arms, Miata uprights, brakes and hubs, Yamaha R1 shocks, Diamond Racing 13X8 wheels identical to fronts with aged out Hankooks.
Since it was built, it has had a number of upgrades. The rear axles were professionally built to stop axle breakage. The radiator updated to aluminum racing radiator, The original FB fuel pump replaces with inline pump and regulator. The car runs very well and drives like a overgrown gokart. It is honestly the most fun you will have on 4 wheels.
Honestly, to be competitive on a national level, it would need more HP, less weight, and more tire. A fiberglass hood and trunk lid would help a lot. Mike and I were both unwilling to cut up the body to fit larger rubber. It is very competitive on regional level.
The car weighs in the 1600-1700 pound range. It is very easy on consumables. Tires age out before they wear out. I've never put brakes on it.
There is no drivers seat mounted in the pictures. It will come with a Kirky 17" aluminum seat and cover. They are in good condition. The seat can be mounted on sliders for the short crowd or hard to be bottom of the car for the taller people. The sliders come with the car.
Everyone always wants to know why I'm selling things. I'm 6'2" and tip the scales at 280 pounds. The car is honestly too small for me. I'm also almost 50. If I'm going to be sitting on grid, I want to do it in the A/C.
Pictures.
Mike's last hill climb run in it.
The car is currently in running, driving condition. Buy it today, autocross it tomorrow. It is due for a oil change.
Spares included. 1 FB 5 speed transmission. 1 FLywheel. 1 New clutch kit. They were bought for another project that has since been sold so I'll throw them in with this car.
The car will come with a bill of sale only. No title.
Asking price is $4500. Offers will be considered, as will interesting trades. Trades will have to be really different, off the wall, V8 powered and street legal.
Thanks for looking.
Allen.
