So, I have a 1981 CBX with a little under 6k miles. Cosmetics aren't perfect with some clear issues on the tank. It's been over a year since I had it running.  I'm putting it on here as I've been thinking of selling it at some point and that Esprit has my itch going as I just love the lines and simplicity of a S1. Located in Gaithersburg and asking 9k. Will work on pics at some point. FWIW,  these came only in 1 specification so feel free to Google as to color and so on. It is bone stock to the best of my knowledge.

I don't think this is correct based on my experience, but I am no expert. Maybe it was different in the US from ROW bikes.

My dad had one he bought brand new. It was red, or maroon. The rear had conventional springs and the side covers were black with CBX (the X was red) on them. Just like this one:

But I have also seen them in silver and white with some sort of Windjammer. I also learned, based on a forum member that owns one, that they came with some sort of self leveling rear hydraulic shock.

My dad had a 1980 CB900 Bol D'or before and he always complained how much of a pain it was to put on the center stand.

Some of the later ones definitely came from Honda kitted out as tourers. A quick image search on Google suggests this might be one of them.

@docwemple- has it been just sitting, or is there more to getting it running again? I might be interested and am fairly local.

That's not an 81. That's a 78-80. I wish mine was one. Although,  honestly,  the 81 and 82 have a better frame and suspension, the 78-80 are the ones people think of and are worth more. The 81 is a sport tourer with a fairing and side cases.

I was planning on oil, filter, fresh fuel and plugs. Tires may be needed too, haven't looked close enough.

That doesn't sound insurmountable. Would appreciate if you can send over a pic or two, but I'm definitely interested.

Pix request here too. I have a friend in Bowie who's interested although, like you said, he prefers the earlier ones without the fairing.

Honestly, the earlier ones are better.  The earlier ones look better.  But really, these were never sport bikes to begin with. Sport touring fits them better

The whole bike changed with the touring package, even the chassis.

The earlier naked bike has the primitive suspension and twin shock rear end.

The touring model has the TRAC anti-dive forks and Pro-Link monoshock rear suspension.

They might as well be two completely different bikes.
