I had bought this for $500, bought the parts to repair it for rallycross, and just never finished.  I am about to move and need to get this out.  I have it on current black tag (non road use).  With a battery it fires right up but needed some hoses replaced, brake hoses replaced (didn't finish this), and replaced one rear half shaft and have the other.

IF you are motivated and not an out of shape IT person you could get this moveable to a trailer fairly quick:  finish other rear half shaft, c clip, bolt rear end back up with gasket material, fill, and re attache brakes/bleed.  I have like 99% of the parts it needs (hoses, belts, water pump, brake pads, brake hoses, etc).  It was also converted to modern r134a a/c before I bought it.  Seats are rough, paint is starting to peal in clear coat in spots.  It was an original owner and I had all the receipts and may still.

My request if you take it:  do something with it!  It is free!  All the parts are free!  Title!  I just want to see it used.

I would DD that, too bad you are so far away.

Curious as to who grabs this and how long it takes.  Those seats will soften right up.

I have a 78 sd that is well into the process of the very straight body, returning to the elementscrying

would a 78 be a good parts donor for this? Or were there too many changes between?

Probably a moot point, since someone will likely have it long before I could come that far for it! But curiosity... (I know what it did to the cat, but can't help myself!)

Damn I would take this if I was closer. These are super reliable and easy to work on vehicles.

I am seriously considering it. My only problem is too many other projects.  I'd have to choose to let another one go away.

I see that you are in OKC. What is your time-line for needing it gone? I'm probably a little under 3 hours away.

This one's a bit rougher... and a long way away! 12 rears ago, it might have been worth repairing the rust, but ten years in a cheap carport, and two outside; it ain't aging well!  If 78 and 82 share parts, well...

I would probably need it gone around 40-60 days...

The original post is a w123 (e class) 300d. The one you posted is a w116 (s class) 300sd. Share some parts but not a whole lot.

I plan to head to Eagles Canyon Raceway in Texas on the 14th and head home on the 15th. I can bring a trailer and pass through OKC. Evening on Saturday the 15th would be best.

If anyone else is super excited about it and is in position to get it, go for it. Otherwise,  I'm going to work on re-homing a couple Fiero projects and a seriously rusted Porsche 914. (Keeping the 'Milburn Fiero' and my black 914)

Does that sound good? My plan for the car is to make it a semi-daily and possibly take it to some Gambler 500 Rallys -if the water crossings aren't too deep. When I lived in Germany I remember seeing farmers use these in the vineyards like we use pick-up trucks.

I've been reading up on more details and the 300SD actually is listed as an S Class, W126 in 1982. Basically the same diesel engine as the W116. The rounded headlights have me wondering if the model-year is correct..?

Edit: Looking at the lights and trim, it appears to match 300D rather than 300SD, so yes - Yupididit is (of course) correct.

Yep, 300sd were the diesel S-class that started in w116 then continued with the w126 after it. But the car in the picture in the original post is a w123 which is a basically an E-class. I dd a diesel w123 from 2014 to 2017, it had over 320k miles. It did have an om617 from a w116 300sd swapped in though + vgt turbo.

For w123 and w116, rounded lights are usdm headlights. Square is euro headlights.

At the same time,  I owned a 450SEL W116 and a w126 coupe 560SEC.

The title of this thread "300sd" doesn't match the car posted for sale which is a w123. 300sd are only for the diesel S-class of the w116 and w126 generations. The w123 diesels came in 240d and 300d for the sedan, 300cd coupe, and 300td for the wagon.

For sure do it. For free is a deal especiallywith that Nardi wheel and drivetrain if it's a 300d. I would take it if I could. If you don't like it I'll buy it from you for $100 lol. You'll just have to hang onto it for a little while lol

I think the w123 is the easiest classic Mercedes to get into. Also think the diesel w123 was the most reliable Mercedes ever. These might be biased opinions lol

Like Yupididit said these extremely easy to work on. The biggest pain is if the front swaybar is broken due to rust and needs to be swapped, that's a big job.

I knew the one in my yard is an SD; he has had a few 240D, and 300D cars as well. I thought the O. P. s car looked more like a 300D, but didn't know if I was just noticing year differences (I think they made some changes along then) or the O. P. listed it as an SD in error.
Thanks for the confirm.
still wouldn't mind it, but still a long way away.

Just making my position clear... I have not directly messaged  christobevii3 and have not made any claim to this car yet.  I have received a forum message from someone else that wanted to make sure they were not stepping on my toes and told them to go for it.  If anyone else's plans don't work out, I'm ready to head to OKC in the next month and add it to my fleet.
