OMG DROOL
OK, realistically, just how scary is the SAAB parts situation? If my 20-something daughter bought that would it be a millstone around her neck in 3 years? Because it's ticking a lot of boxes for her. And, it's what you'd call extremely local. I'm pretty interested on her behalf.
I haven't run into an issues on my 2010 but mine is FWD and the four cylinder which are both much more common.
In reply to Duke:
All of the mechanical parts are GM so there should be no issue there, besides the parts arm of SAAB never went out of business and is still producing parts.
The only newer SAAB I would be worried about is that last gen 9-5 since it was only made somewhere around 12K of them.
I haven't had any issues getting parts. Sometimes you can be a little crafty and save money like the rain sensor that was missing when I bought it I got used from a saturn (opel) astra. There were some concerns about the rear diff and parts a couple years ago but everyone figured out that you can just order the Cadillac parts and use those and that regular fluids really help it out. The v6 has been around since the new gen 9-3s style came out just in different tunes. This car has the normal size AERO rotors and not the fairly expensive TurboX sized ones. Coils seem to be much more affordable than when I changed them. The workshop manual and electronic parts catalog are being treated as abandonware so you can get them from various sources which is very helpful.
