Okay I didn't know these existed until today. 555 hp 4.4 twin turbo V8. 5,300 lbs, 1/4 in 12.5 -- almost half a second faster than the first gen Viper!?! I WANT!
The damage happened at the impound lot, so clearly they are irreputable; you don't just destroy something that's not your own, right? So who knows what more vandalism will happen between inspection/purchase and delivery. That wouldn't be the first time that happened to me.
With a salvage title the value drops from $23 to maybe $17? Let's say I took it for $8k. Worst case is engine or trans need to be replaced, that's $11 for engine on car-part.com, plus $2 on the low side to get it done (I don't have space or time to try that myself). It needs, let's say, $2 in body work. Already way upside down, and maybe upside down even if sold at full price with a clean title.
Probably most likely case is $8 to purchase, $2 in bodywork, $2 in repairs. But why did someone abandon it in the first place?
If you got it and engine/trans was bad, if you knew how to fix instead of replace, like me, or if instead of fixing it if you had time/space to part it out, you might be safe.
I was crunching the numbers with my cousin but decided to pass for the above reasons. But maybe someone else would want to give it a try. If so, please let me see you launch it at least once! I would LOVE to see something like this just get on it!
