I know someone looking for a low cost car as new as they can get.  There are two dealers in the Chicago area that have combined close to 50 of these Chargers "from Florida".

Any experience in the shape?  Do these blow?  Will a non-car person have way too many problems versus buying a 2016 Accord w/100,000 miles for the same money?

Was every acceleration at full throttle up to redline every time?

This seems like a poor time for an influx of cheap automobiles  "from Florida".

Buying directly from the government auction sites seems like a much better idea, as you usually are able to get the history of the vehicle, and they disclose whether the car has, for example, been underwater in a hurricane.

I'm always amazed what just googling the 17 digit vin will return....

The story jives.  It was auctioned in Tampa on Oct 8th and sold for $13,800.  The auction site no longer gives any condition report.

On the further question of a non-car person spending significant dollars to buy an ex-cop car.  Given that this purchase is "real money" and not just a few thousand dollars, I think the non-car people I know would  be very unhappy with an ex-cop car.  For this amount there are many more choices of "clean cars" with less menial service backgrounds that your owner would feel more proud about owning.

Said another way, $17k is too much money to have this not be a purchase that has an emotional response.  I do not think an old cop car (that will always seem like and old cop car) with instill the right emotions.

This is likely all the condition description that was on the car, as it was sold by a third party auctioneer, and not listed by the government entity, as is often done on GovDeals or Public Surplus, where there may be a contact you can talk to about the vehicle in question.

This option was instrumental in helping me with procuring my Dajiban sight unseen from 2000 miles away last fall.
