You and me both. I've got a 02 that has the typical Illinois rot, but the drivetrain only has 58k on it.

I've no idea, but it is a huge PITA to get a title in NC. You can't even start the process unless you have a running and driving car, and then the law man has to come and inspect it. Then you put up a bond on the car for the full value of it, and they issue you a title. I think if somebody says "that's mine" and can produce a valid title, you lose the car but may get the bond back.
It might be worth it for something with a book value of $500 or so.
