Selling a 1982 VW Rabbit race / track car.

This car was raced in SCCA's Improved Touring C class (ITC, but in theory could be run in HProd with a few changes) and was purchased as a project / backup racer.    The car was built in 2000 and has a full roll cage and an SCCA logbook.  The car hasn't been on track in a few years and will need some going through including some suspension work.  I've had this for a few years and we were going to fix this up for a friend to race but never got the chance and now it must go!

Before start, this car is not suitable for a daily driver and can't be driven home, etc (bring a trailer!), but I do want it to find a good home.   Some details:

BODY:  This is the US early square (Westmoreland) body style that VW used before going to the "wrap around" turn signal type in the last years.  Mk1 fans love this style for some reason... or if you're a round headlight guy, I think you can swap out for rounds using the same core support and fenders.  Up to you.   The original owner says the car has had body work, but I've yet to find out where.  Strut towers and A-pillars look solid.   The inside is a little dirty / funky from sitting, but should clean up.   Authentic stop sign tire well cover.

ENGINE:  The engine is a stock 1.6L that was originally put together as a test/backup engine for another car.  The engine is equipped with a tubular header.  There's no exhaust on the car, although for a car like this, it's not complicated to make one up.   The engine did run, however will probably need a bit of tuning, etc.   It currently doesn't have a battery or an exhaust so can't be operated as is.

The car reportedly has a twin fuel pump system that helped with fuel starvation in the corners, however I haven't looked through it in detail.

TRANSMISSION:  Stock 4 speed with open diff. Shifted fine in the other car. It has axles, knuckles, brakes, etc.

SUSPENSION: The car needs some suspension work, however it comes with some parts to help that along.  The car has stock uprights holding up the front right now (hence the funny stance in the photos), however comes with most of the parts needed to run a coilover sleeve setup with camber plates.   I'm including a set of Bilstein sport uprights and the camber plates, but they'll need to be adapted to the tower tops (previous owner had a different style mount on there).   In the rear, there's a set of older Carrera shocks with coilover sleeves and springs, plus a sway bar, maybe two.

WHEELS: Comes with a set of stock 13 inch "Tarantula" wheels on old/junk tires.

SAFETY:  Comes with a window net, race seat and full cage, although I believe the passenger side door bar may need to be updated to be at least an X to be legal.

There's a lot of potential here... fix it up and run ITC at events in the region (we've got a strong showing in Great Lakes Div in SCCA).  Maybe you're looking for a cr_pcan racer or a good solid base for an engine swapped track day warrior...who knows?   This should be fun.

The car is currently in storage south of Cincinnati (NKY) so showing it will take some coordination, but I can try to answer any questions and I'm motivated to sell.   Asking $900 obo (no low ballers) and not really interested in any trades. Priced to move fast.

Ok... so did some digging and pro crap_can racers can chime in here, but seems like this may work in ChumpCar.  Based on their rules, seems like as it sits, the car would be around 300pts (or so) as it sits (with coilovers).   Base value should be 175 points.

I'd love to see it return as an ITC car or vintage racer but more importantly, I'd like to see someone use the car.   No title on this one, by the way, but will gladly provide a bill of sale along with the log book.

This would be a perfect entry for vintage racing. Someone please grab this, and join us for a lot of track time at a reasonable price with the VSCDA. I crossposted this to the VSCDA FB page to get more viewers. If someone wants to race with the VSCDA and needs more info, feel free to pm me.

Neat car.  I had a similar former ITC '80 Rabbit a few years back but in blue.  GLWS!

Thanks for the bumps.  Just got a deposit from a local racer on Monday, so at this point,  consider this as sold / going to a new home!
