In the event of an impact, it friction welds itself together. Very handy. Fresh welds like that are stronger than some crusty old "finished" weld.

Sorry, joke was a bit complex. The joke was that it's *not* welded, but will friction weld itself together upon impact, and the rationale being that a freshly done weld (such as upon impact) would be stronger than an existing ("old") weld.

No, I got it. I just happened to see tge silver dot that,  I guess,  is supposed to be a weld.  He'd be a lot better off ripping that pipe out.
