Jeez, how low will these go? I never saw E30 M3s dip below $5K--they started appreciating after hitting about 15 years old. This car is almost 20.

I have to believe this is near the bottom for a running/driving car.
I'd have to look at the numbers, but I'm pretty sure they built a lot more E36's than E30's when it comes to M3's. Plus, the S14 has a bit more of a cult following than the S50/52. But mainly, the E30 M3 was designed to race and they made a street version. The E36 was designed for the street that happened to get raced.
Regardless, this looks like a screaming deal. As much as BMW's scare me right now, I'd have a hard time passing up on this if there was any way I could swing buying another car right now (absoberkinglutely impossible). This looks like the perfect basis for a track-rat.
Wondering where the rear wheels went, but holy cow that is CHEAP!
Part of the price discrepancy might also have something to do with the fact that the US-market E36 M3 had the "lesser" S50/S52 compared to the Euro-market cars.

Funny, I was wondering the exact same thing.
Wow - even needing a grand in deferred maintenance it's still about the lowest priced driver I've seen.
I've scooped up a handful of under $2500 e36 m3's they're far and away the best purchase you can make for e30 swaps, this one is even better because its a manual (almost all of mine have been autos)
theres easily $5-600 in m3 bumpers/side skirts, another few hundred in the m3 brakes and LSD, the vader seats even in rough condition (which this appears to have) are worth a few hundred more, tack on the other misc. bits and bobs that e36 are always looking for to make their incomplete cars complete and you get very close to having a $0 engine/trans/wiring/ecu that plugs into the much lighter e30 chassis.

I'm not sure if you are serious, but I see these for sale relatively cheap on my local craigslist all the time...

I'm always disappointed they aren't manual when I see them.
