Hello there, I am a lonely single Swedish female; I am a 47 year old beauty with an athletic build. At this age I know all the tricks and will probably teach you one or two. I am looking for a long term relationship & plutonic or non plutonic companionship with a male or female, wherever you lead I will go. I am a very good girl who loves to work hard and play harder. I enjoy long drives in the moonlight. I have never been married but I am not completely opposed to the whole institution. I may smoke on occasion, but I only drink unleaded, but I do so enjoy a good time unleaded or not. I have no dependents and a clean title. One of my greatest pleasures in life is to work all day long at the hands of my driver. I have been told that I have really straight lines, yet very dangerous curves. Although I do have a couple scares from past relationships. Those days I hope you can help put behind me. My measurements are 183/68/56. I have never considered ethnicity to be an issue, as gray goes with everything. I love to travel but hope to settle down to a permanent home very soon. Like any fragile creature I need your upmost respect. I can be waiting for you when you get home; wearing only what the boys at Torslanda gave me. Hope to see you soon. Love Yak, V

Meanwhile at a nearby Bar, “I heard this from a friend that heard it from a friend”.

“She is a Volvo 144S, she has been neglected, in fact outright ignored for years. She has such a good heart, I know if she just had the chance to give it to somebody else that appreciated her she would shine. I guess her other BO figured that if he provided a roof over her head, well that was enough. She has so many really good qualities but no place to let them shine. She has power steering and Brakes. She is working hard to improve herself. Jeez just last week she got a bath for the first time in 20years. Although I don’t know if she can ever be made to purr again? It appears that there is a good chance; I have seen her engine spin. But never heard it run.

She was delivered new back in 1972, a time when Volvo knew how to build a great creature. As a legal immigrant from Sweden she enjoyed the US for years, spending the majority of them in the Finest state in the union, Texas. But over years she developed a love for the Dallas area, she moved here from Fort Worth, She has lived for the 4 decades or so.

Her V number is 1456353119196, Unit 144S. Oh, speaking of engines, get this! She is packing the most powerful engine available for the Handsome 144S cars at the time! In 72 everybody was crazy about Hemi’s, but this beautiful silver beast was packing a 2.0 Liter, Longitudinal Inline 4 with 8 valves! This thing is so incredibly fierce, in her day she had enough torque to make an Isetta shiver in its tracks, in fact till this day no one has ever heard of a duel between the two.

She has great features, 4 on the floor, mostly all there. She is great on the inside, its what’s on the inside that counts you know. Like all mature women, sometimes well they just go silver or platinum, whichever works. What that is saying is that, “hey, I’ve been there done that and don’t give a rats ass anymore, because I’m confident enough in who I am and don’t need to impress anybody” and you know that’s what happened to her. It just makes them all the better. Before this Gal went silver, she was a beautiful Evergreen. Like all pure silvers you can look close and see what she once was.

Well anyway. With such great quality and strength it is hard to believe she only weighs 2900lbs, not a great big girl but can definitely hold her own. But remember part of that is her 15 gallon bladder, really handy on long trips.

Well You know we are friends, but In a matter like this I can’t really tell you what to do, I just know what I would do and what anybody else in their right mind would do. So let’s examine the facts.

Facts are Good women that you can trust are hard to find.

Fact is you already know she is low on baggage that she could be hiding, not to say that she might have an unknown secret. Pretty much rust free.

True, you could get an import mail order bride but you don’t what you are going to get once you drag her back to your cozy little cottage and you would sure get in trouble if you just put her on a plane back home.

I know she is a chance worth taking, if you don’t somebody else sure will, maybe me.

Before I go just let me tell you a couple important points of interest that I got from her EX about her.

1. She can’t get pregnant.
2. You can drive her any time of the month.
3. She doesn’t have parents.
4. She won’t whine unless something is really wrong.
5. You can share her with your friends.
6. She does not care how many other Volvos you've driven.
7. When riding, you and your Volvo can arrive at the same time.
8. She doesn’t care how many other Volvos you have now.
9. She does not care if you look at other Volvos.
10. She doesn’t care if you buy Volvo magazines.
11. You'll never hear, "Surprise, you're going to own a new Volvo"
unless you go out and buy one yourself.
12. If she goes flat, you can fix it.
13. If your Volvo is too loose, you can tighten it.
14. If your Volvo gets misaligned, you don't have to discuss
politics with it.
15.
16. You don't have to be jealous of the guy who works on her.
17. If you say bad things to her, you don't have to apologize
before you drive it again.
18. You can ride your Volvo as long as you want and it won’t get
sore.
19. You can stop driving her as soon as you want and she won’t
get frustrated.
20. Your parents won’t remain in touch with your Volvo after you
dump it.
21. She doesn’t get headaches.
22. She won't insult you if you're a bad rider.
23. She never wants a night out with other Volvos.
24. She doesn’t care if you're late.
25. You don't have to take a shower before you drive her.
26. If your Volvo doesn't look good, you can paint it or get better
parts.
27. You can drive her the first time you meet her without
having to take it to dinner, see a movie, or meet its mother.
28. The only protection you need to wear when riding your Volvo is a
decent helmet.
29. When in mixed company, you can talk about what a great ride you
had the last time you were on her.

She is available for local pickup in the beautiful suburb of Lancaster TX or can be delivered for $2.00 a loaded mile up to 200 miles. All payments must be complete before delivery. She is what she is, you cannot bring her back.

1971 Volvo barn find, been under roof for the last several decades. Appears to be complete for the most part. Has not been run in years. Brakes work well. Engine is not locked up. Open to offers, just throw it out there and I'll run it up the flagpole and see what happens.

Same here... reasonably clean looking car with A/C.  Is that a B20 with SUs?

No, that would have the Bosch Jetronic injection.  Unless someones' got tired of mucking about with that, and stabbed on a 2bbl Weber manifold + carburetor.

EDIT:  Huh, well, guess I'm wrong.  It is SU-equipped.  Interesting; the 1800E of that year had the same engine, and was injected.

Am I the only guy wondering that thing could be started up and driven home?

Surely you would know by now that I would know the difference between D-Jet and SUs? wink

It does surprise me - I thought by then they have gone to Zenith Strombergs, similar to Triumphs of that era.

I was more wondering if it's a B20 or a B18.

While I remember the 140 series cars often had "lesser" engines than the 1800E (carb'd vs. EFI, respectively), I don't know enough about them to know if they also were sometimes fitted with the smaller engines as well.

No...  No you're not. Although I'd probably arrive with a few carb rebuild kits, a fuel pump (or two) along with a box of other stuff.

These 1972 cars used a bottom float bowl SU that has some peculiarities, and is not quite as reliable as the earlier SU, but still far better than Strombergs. When they were new cars I saw several grow the jet tubes up out of the plastic holder that is emersed in the float bowl. For a while the dealer would give us new jets! Turns out all you really need to do is squeeze them back in. It seems the brass tube would corrode a little on bottom, pushing it up. Carb cars were sold along side D-Jet injected cars from '71 through '73 before K-Jet became standard on all. All were B20 from '70 on for the US market.

Anyone else notice that the VIN in the ad doesn't match the data plate on the car? That VIN is for a 145 with a B20F (IE, K-Jet fuel injection), no sunroof, M41 4-speed with overdrive, and 49 state emissions; chassis number 119196. The data plate on the car is for a 144 with a B20B(IE, what's in the car), no sunroof, M40 4-speed without overdrive, and 49 state emissions. It doesn't have the chassis number though. Wonder what the story there is.
