My first race car was a 1979 Civic 1200. I'd love to have another one, but I have no idea where I'd ever get parts for it.

Isn't that the one with the PITA 3 barrel carb?

Like this? Critical race parts like crankshafts are impossible to find. This one better be rust free, or you're buying a parts car.

How hard is it to swap a modern B or even K series engine and trans in one? A K swap Wagon would rule.

No that was the CVCC.

In reply to Appleseed : B and D swaps are the most common. More easily done in the CVCC 1500 cc cars, as the engine compartment is 3 inches longer

Is that a fair price? I know where a rust free one is sitting, thought about the B/D engine swap too

In reply to TheWraith :

Tough to tell if it is a fair price. Looks like it's been sitting outside for a long time, so the chances that it has terminal rust is high. Good starting point is the front cross member. If it has even pin holes from rust, it's not only toast, but also another of one of those impossible to find parts. $1000 is the absolute max I would pay for it. That's because I would part it out, and keep certain pieces for my race car. The reason why there are so few 1st Gen Civics around is that the majority in the USA outside the South and Southwest are toast from rust. I would say 80% of the ones I have looked at in the Midwest that were billed as "roadworthy" or "restorable" were unfortunately  too far gone from rust. If it is fairly solid, it would be worth 1K.

I put a D16Z6 in my CVCC.  From what I've read the 1200's were quite the high revving fun little cars.
