Someone grab this before I risk my sanity and marriage. Elan for $1500.
Hard to tell if scam. Not mine, I know nothing.
I'd find a cheap bike motor... Just saying.

Yeah, that's a problem. It would be perfect for a BEC and I got a B already. Glad it's clear across the continent...
It's in my back yard. With my volume of projects and stuff in general I was hoping he'd be up for a trade. No joy.

How much trouble is it for you to take a look? I'm interested in knowing how much suspension, steering and final drive it has. If it has the diff and halfshafts that would be a huge win. An R&P too.
Didn't Tim Suddard restore one that was in far worse shape than this? I seem to recall the tub was in two or more pieces.
There's a guy in Danbury CT who's always selling Elan parts when the time comes.

Just got this back from Mr Caterham:
"No diff or half shafts. Wishbones, uprights and steering rack included. I will get it up on the lift next week and shoot some more photos and add them. I will be showing the car Tues. Wed. & Thurs afternoon if you want to schedule a visit."
Does that work for you, DocW? "No" is a perfectly acceptable answer.

You're correct. He picked it up along with a 1G Cortina for $2,500(?) in 2014. But the Elan had a (mostly) complete interior and the engine/transmission were stored separately in a garage. When the project was completed in 2016, was invited to compete at Amelia Island and won some award.
I do alot of work on Lotus's at my shop and it's about 30min from me. We sent it around between a few of my friends/customers and all passed. Cool project, shame about the arches, the wheels would fetch a decent amount.
"best offer over $1500"...
I wonder what offers have been given, and how long the seller will wait.
I would be interested at $1500 but I'm not interested in a bidding war on FB marketplace. If you want an auction, list it on eBay.
I am putting a K24 in a Spitfire right now, but thinking a K24 in an Elan would really be something! I put in an offer on the car. Might just have to go see this tomorrow.

According to the first entry, the had been accepted to the Amelia Island concours even as they threw the bits and pieces into a rented trailer. Helps to be in the biz :) No awards, alas. And from the pics, I'm not sure I'd say it had a whole lot of interior. Everything was present in the dashboard, that's about as far as I'd go in describing the interior.
