(Not Mine)

Really tempted by this. Always thought these things were cool. Is it an interference engine? That's why the owner feels its totalled? And am I right in thinking these have a reputation for blowing motors, more so than usual for a Toyota?
And here's a complete head for $250... http://baltimore.craigslist.org/pts/4309078660.html
Seems like you could have a pretty sweet Spyder for about $3000...
The blowing motors issue is the precat one the seller mentioned in the ad. Motor ingests crumbled precat, owner gets to put in a new motor.
TBH I'd just throw in another secondhand motor instead of trying to repair the existing one.
If someone wants to bring me that car and $10k, they can have my fully sorted MSM.
For $4500-5000, you can get a 2ZZ and 6speed swap for these.
Someone pick up that car, bring it and $7500 to Monkeywrench Racing.

End up with a K24 6spd LSD powered MR-S for $10k or less. Have a RIDICULOUSLY fast car.
Think mid-engined S2000 with a much scarier power/weight ratio.

mine is a weapon, these cars rock. buy it!!!!
Then buy my 2zzge for $2000 and the c60 I saw on cl the other day for 500. Wicked car for <$5000.
Did any company ever make a hard top for these?
Yep. Open your wallet. They usually cost about as much as this car in the OP does. Or more.

The company was toyota. Like swanky said, 2500ish
They ARE berkeleying gorgeous and completely transform the car, though.

Miata hardtops were about the same when new, so doesn't seem that out of line.
But if 'Yota hardtops are still selling for that, then yeah, a bit pricey!!!

So many more Miatas than these.
I agree they look fantastic with one on. There was a yellow one with a carbo (wrapped probably) hardtop here in Atlanta about 7-8 years ago. Looked fantastic. I remember when these came out it was like RX8 syndrome. All you heard was how much better the predecessor was that people didn't push these very hard.

Are you not doing the 2zz swap any more?
How complete is your setup?

It was a full drivetrain from a celica gts that I used the 6speed in my spyder. P/O said like 11k miles on it (I've got no way to confirm that though). Its got manifolds, injectors and coilpacks. I havent completely given up on the swap, it's just very good with 214whp 1zz/ disco potato, and I've got a bunch of other projects that I could move along with the dough. If it doesnt sell, I'll eventually get around to building it for boost and swapping it in.
