"We recently inherited an incomplete kit car. This is a Duke SS-100 from Classic Roadsters, Ltd. It is a replica of a 1939 Jaguar SS 100. It was purchased in the late 1980s, moved to FL in the early '90s, and worked on until around until around 2010. I estimate it's about 70% complete. All the parts from Classic Roadsters should be present, including the tan interior, seats, carpet, and convertible top. Most of the suspension is from the Mustang II. The engine is a Ford 5.0 L V8 and was professionally rebuilt in the '90s. I don't think it has ever run. The transmission is a Ford C4 automatic. The body is fiberglass.

This is being sold "as-is" but is available for inspection."

I don't know when i could even get down there, this summer is going to be stupid busy.  I should probably forget about it

I thought for sure it was gonna be air cooled VW powered. I'm impressed! 

I need more 5.0 in my life.  If someone could secure it I'd roadtrip down and pick it up in the next month or so.

I've got no place to stash it right now.  Maybe contact seller and see if they would hold? Me and Glueguy are close and can put eyes on it if needed. Glueguy may have a place to store.

I go away for a couple of hours..

We could store it at the shop short-term.  I could move some stuff around.  Problem is more my schedule and being able to be at the shop to help.

Dang, that would make an interesting challenge car.

Doesn't matter, rules say " if a vehicle uses a tube frame, then modification of production exterior bodywork is only allowed provided the end result is substantially similar in general appearance to the original vehicle".

Kit cars that are meant to look like production vehicles should be fine under the rule. Kit cars that are their own beast not so much.

Ashkyun found a running driving Miata yesterday WITH a hardtop for $900.

By the time they responded it was sold.

If that thing was local I would have bought it already. I could drive that to work in a few weeks...

I'm normally happy to enable poor automotive decisions...but damn, all those 30's "replicas" have always been fugly in my eyes. Very Challenge-able indeed but I just can't get past those looks. And that's from a guy building a full-fendered 30's Ford.

I'm going with not Challenge legal. It appears to be tube chassis, and a replica body is not production bodywork. I know, buzzkill, but this is how I read the language used in the rules.

Secondly, not rules related, while the front suspension does appear to be MustangII, that rear axle setup looks like foxbody. I think if this was close to me, it would be a fun project to finish, enjoy for a bit, and then flip.

I'm with you. "Modification of production exterior" does not mean build whatever body you want as long as it looks similar. Now if you were to tack on a couple of production frame rails and of course shorten them to fit the wheelbase then you're golden. 

Also see the post where Tom said that a Bradley GT on tube frame is only allowed if proven to be originally sold as a turn key car.  My Bradley GT is "substantially similar in general appearance to the original vehicle" but since I can't prove it was a turn key car I can't tube frame it.
