maybe undo the sidepipes, but otherwise if you're in the market this is a really good price.

1996 was the last year for the XJS coupe, but there can't be many around, most of the 2drs were convertible by that point.
In reply to Steve_Jones :
That's an XJS. The XJ coupe in the as are a different model. Different like the XJS being a Honda Prelude and the XJ and XJ coupe being like an Accord sedan and Accord coupe.

I understand that, and answered the question as written. It's why I said XJS. The one linked is not an 86 XJ coupe either as by 86 it was an XJS.

I didn't say it was an 86. I did say it was an xj coupe. Much more rare (and much better looking) than an xjs.
The ad is weird enough to me that is seems a bit scammy. Why wouldn't a mechanic-owner know what year the car is? It should be stamped on the inner door sill.
But still, if I were in the market for one of these the price is right enough that I'd be enquiring.

Ah, I see. You answered "did jaguar make any model coupes in 86?",
But really understanding the context stampie asked "did jaguar make xj coupes (like the one that is the subject of this thread) in 86?"
We could just call it an XJ-C since that's the model name. Also I believe they stopped making these in '78 so this indeed seems odd. They're rare cars, so if someone really wants an XJ-C then I could maybe see it, but this one is probably going to be a big project to make into a good car.

Just because I was curious. Looks like during the series 2 years (there were 3 series of XJ with this same basic body), about 1 in 7 XJs sold was an XJ-C. (10k of 70k) However, over the entire model run of all 3 series, Jaguar sold 318k. So coupes are 1 in 31 - I thought they were more rare than that.
the v12 engine is slightly more common. about 30k of the 318k came with the v12 across all the years.
BTW, it could just be a typo in the for sale listing. This could easily be a 76 XJ-C.
Could be a 76? Hard pass with the v8 conversion! The xj straight 6 is one of the all time great engines. A 350 Chevy is blasphemy

Good to see other men of culture on this board. This car gets minus two million points for the troglodyte engine swap, although it gets two points back because they kept the propensity for Lucas electrical fires with their wiring job.
In reply to totallynotCougarmguar :
OMFG too funny and true. That wiring is abysmal. Kills me that an engine that has won LeMans 3 times in the premier class, powers the sexist car ever (e type) and sounds glorious would be pulled to put that redneck special in.
