I will post pictures later.
The BMW K-1200rs engine is a squeaker getting into the nose of the Metropolitan. Shock towers taper inboard, engine could fit but it would be a high CG with the output shaft above the floor pan. OK, sprocket here, sprocket there and now it works. THAT is beyond the scope of my available tooling.
So: Swap the 130hp shaft drive 6 speed engine for a 2.0 something with a stick? 86 the whole thing and start over? WWGRM do?
Everything is clean via pressure washing, engine runs and has the wiring harness, air box and fuel tank (with the fuel filter and pump inside). Car rolls freely on pizza cutter 13' rims. For the unbelievable sum of ~$1000 you get all that plus clean VW GTi seats. Or suggest an engine....
I am so stuck almost any suggestion graciously accepted.

Rear diff upside down (gotta get rotation correct, but...) To bring the axle line down? Just tilt the whole motor down enough to get the axle line down? I am assuming rear drive because I had a rear drive Honda 600...
I have an Audi quattro rear diff that spins "the other way" from most. Plug the vent and make a new vent.

From my trials installing a K100 engine in a small vehicle it seems that the engine could be tilted a decent amount before running into oil pickup issues.
I eventually scrapped that whole plan though because of fitment issues so I know where you are coming from.
Issue isn't left-right driveshaft issue, the shaft would eliminate much of the passenger seat. Spin direction is OK.
If you see a donor engine please call.

What is the end goal? As in, what do you need a new motor to do? Anything other than easy to find and easy to fit? Performance goals? Weight limit? 2.3l Lima? Ecotec crate motor? Tell Tom1200 to either use his newish motor or sell it to you?
In reply to EvanB :
I remember reading some of that, 'specialty since I'm a huge K bike fan.
Out of curiosity, I assume you were experimenting with tilting the head up some?
I have a Datsun L16 in my garage with no plan for it.

I don't see how pornhub is the answer to any of these issues....

Why use pornhub when you can have the real thing?
What about a toyota 22r or rotary engine?
Panther: No tilt. I want it to sit as it did in the bike frame, less opportunity for oil starvation.
Brotus: Tell me about it.
Yupididit: Think about them all the time, unfortunately some sellers think they have gold. Most of the newer stuff is FWD.

Yes, the issue for me was contact of the head with the driver side shock tower/steering shaft since the engine is so wide. With the head tilted up the output shaft would get lower and closer to the center of the car. With the oil pickup at the very bottom right side it seems like you could get away with quite a bit of angle before running into oil starvation issues.

I'm not falling for this again.
Engine wise what about a boring old Miata engine? Rotaries are neat but they are realtively wide. The width is down low but still needs to be accounted for. If 130hp ish is your goal any modern 1.5ish 4 cyl gets you there but RWD transmissions aren't being used much so your usually doing adapters.
Have you considered the nuclear option of back halfing the car and doing a FWD MR conversion? A Nash MetSHOpolitan could be fun. Or do a Modern AWD SUV drivetrain and build a Nash Metro6R4.
Oy! No room out back fo an MR, but there is Colt Vista 4WD 5 speed nearby for $900.

In high school I put a 283 in a Bug Eye, one door kept popping open while the other jammed.
BBC and it would flip over.
some liter bike engine with the appropriate output shaft. You should be able to drop it low enough to get everything under the floor pan.

A friend in Cape Cod is trying to sell a good 12a with transmission for about $1200 right now..

What about one of the Honda shaft drive V4s?
Something a V65 Magna or Sabre would get you about 115 hp and a narrower package that used shaft drive.
