In reply to J.A. Ackley :

I actually had a coffin when I was in high school. The Key Club I was in did a haunted house in an old WW2 fort on Sullivan's Island. I acquired it from somewhere and we used it in the haunted house for years. When I left HS, I left the coffin with the club.

Back in the 80s, this was all grown over with scrub. We would clean the detritus out and set up a path for the haunted house. The steel doors would clang shut when the victims walked in, and it got scarier from there. It was darker than 10' up a well diggers butt in those rooms.

That was in the Chainsaw Massacre era. We would strip the chain off a chainsaw and chase people with the engine screaming. Down in those concrete corridors, it sounded like murder and mayhem were coming for you.

Man, that was fun.

Thanks for the memories.

Edit. There's zero chance anyone would be allowed to do something like that again. Makes me super glad I grew up in the 70s-80s, during the age of danger and dismemberment.
