This checks a bunch of boxes, wagon, rear wheel drive, LS swap mounts and driveshaft adapter included, BMW, Florida car so hopefully less rust, disassembled/non-running/crappy pictures so cheap entry, 528 starting point so you get the better steering rack, etc.

Would be a ton of work but maybe a challenge eligible LS wagon here.

From the seller:

CAR HAS NO DRIVETRAIN. SHELL ONLY Bought the car after it sitting in Florida sun for 4 years, replaced some suspension items and decided it wasn't what I wanted, Car was LS swapped, drive train will be pulled before sale, will leave custom mounts with the car, car uses factory e39 motor mounts. Radio and wideband will be pulled before sale. Car is being sold as a shell, bring your own rims/wheels. Car maybe a E36 M3box but it would be a decent part car, if no one buys it by the time my second car is up and running it will be taken to the scrap yard I work at. Clean Florida title in my name. I want to keep the tires unless you throw extra on top. You'll also get all my extra e39 parts I have sitting around. Any questions just ask New: Rack and pinion ($150) Inner+outer tie rods ($50) Shocks all the was around ($275) Hatch shocks ($30) Brakes ($180) Rear end adaptor for custom drive shaft ($200) Fuel sending units+pump (240)

I would put that in my backyard and not work on it for years.

yeah that has basketcase written all over it, which is probably why I'm strangely aroused and moderately interested in it.

Seems vaguely familiar.  Was it posted here for sale when it was intact?

I think you're thinking of the LS powered e39 wagon I bought and then sold. It wasn't this one. Jgrewe (forum member) bought my project and was going to get it running.
