NMNA.
A couple of years ago I was looking for one of these, and couldn't find one near me. I've currently I've sworn off older BMWs. Too many E36 M3 CELs, no covered parking, etc.. Still, I'm tempted to go take a look. Said to have recent "breaks" and a "V6", so probably owner is not a hard core car person. But it does look nice and they are truly hard to find, in nice bright red! Priced about right?

It's worth a look. It probably needs all the maintenance done that the seller just found out about would be my guess.
Red over tan sports package wagon, manual, and a Southern car to boot? It's definitely worth a serious look! I don't think that's a bad asking price, for a red manual wagon, but you can probably knock a bit off if no receipts for cooling system etc. The interior looks great for the mileage, which I've found is often an indicator that a car was well cared for...if not by the current owner then maybe by a prior owner.
Edited to add: The mention of a "top end auto system with top end surround sound system" would make me look carefully at the main harness and other interior wiring.

Base car, leatherette seats. But it looks very clean and straight. As long as it hasn’t overheated, 167k is 50% life on that engine and transmission. I would offer $4000 and budget another $1000 for coolant system refresh and all the various gaskets and seals it probably needs.
2001 is the heyday of the overboosted E46 power steering, but A) some of those got corrected by TSB if the owner complained, and B) you should be able to swap a later rack in if it bugs you.
