Decent price for a running S38 - even better for one with a car attached to it.Then again very little blow by could be a lot like very little rust...
That's really cool, but (luckily?) on the complete wrong side of the country for me.
With prices where they are, I could see picking up an E24 at some point. I liked those since that awful show with Cybil Sheperd was on the air.
Of the bunch, the one in Nashville looks best. Wonder how much an engine rebuild is. Can't be cheap.
This is a true 100% plus car.
After paying the price of bringing it home just start at the front end and the spending begins.
Just the labor on the valve adjustment will have you asking why!
But any time running it through the 5 speed might make it worth while, maybe.
I wouldn't mind having one of those engines on a stand in my garage and just rebuild it a little at a time.
The S38 is probably my favorite engine, at least that I've ever experienced. Rebuilds are very expensive, generally close to or into 5 figures, but it depends what you're doing to it when you're in there. My parents have an E34 M5 with 120,000 miles on it that has been very reliable, though, and it sees track days and autocrosses. My guess is that if you got the one in Nashville, you'd be over what a nice one costs pretty quickly. Nothing looks really bad, but everything looks like it could use a little help.
