NMNA - High miles, no records, but great color and a fairly low price for an S I think. Boxster S

If it was closer I'd check it out. It's certainly cheap for a running S, even with those miles. But the fact that the seller can't even be bothered to hose off the crap before taking pictures gives me pause...

Thank God the car is on Jalopnik. It's 30min away from me, and if it's still there tomorrow morning I'll have no choice but to go "look at it." It looks to be very dirty, yes, but don't we all dream of that lucky find? No, no! I'm supposed to be talking myself *out* of this car. 

What content starved writer on jalopnik pulled this ad off of here and wrote about it.

Posted there at 8am, here at 10am. I think this time they actually scooped us. 

Sigh. I guess I have to. SWMBO likes the color and didn't say "no." My son has a little league game at 9am tomorrow...I will email seller top of the 8th and see what happens. (Am trying to stack the deck against myself.)

EDIT: Looking at additional pics, I think one corner on the rear got pranged: One upper control arm, eccentric bolt and sway bar bushing bracket are v clean, while the other side is a bit crusty.  Hm

We were talking about it the day before on the 986Forum. A guy was asking advice about looking at it with a $4,500 offer before the whole thing blew up.

My comment then:

Mike's comment about state inspection is a good point. Not an issue where I'm at, so I often forget what some people go through.

If you do look at the car... Do check the fault codes AFTER driving it. Do pull the oil filter off to look at the oil for any debris. -You can pull the filter cup off the bottom of the engine and hardly any extra oil will drain out. The car will have to be jacked up or on ramps and you will need an appropriate filter wrench.
Push all the buttons, grab the tires at 6 and 12 and 3 and 9 and check for suspension play. Figure out how to remove the engine cover: Find out that the power steering fluid is below the dipstick, the engine is filthy, leaking oil, and the vacuum hoses are all broken. Along with everything else, it should probably have the water pump replaced, front bumper removed and radiators cleaned, a new engine mount, idler pulleys, DIY starter rebuild (cleaning), transmission oil change, brake flush, window regulators, and new struts.
I think its not worth paying to have a professional PPI done on a $4,500 car, but you could learn a lot if you do it.

...but you could probably buy it for $4,500 and drive the poop out of it for the rest of the year without spending more than a few hundred (plus the cost of some awesome tires ...tires matter).

If it was marketed dirty on BaT as a 'Rare Barn Find, First Gen Porsche 986', he probably could have got $10k for it. Now he'd have to park it back in the barn again for a couple weeks.

So Manhattan did you pick it up yet?

I was going to email the seller after my son's little league game, but he was so excited that he wanted to stay after and do more batting practice and play catch.... While we did that I had the realization that these days I'd rather spend free time hanging out with the kids or out on the boat instead of wrenching on another car.  So, I've mentally let this one go. That said, happy to go check it out if someone would like me to put eyes on it.
