Today I chatted with the owner about this car enough to get excited about it, but I have four kids now and there's no way a Boxster makes sense in my life. He just dropped the price to six grand:

No, seriously, why so cheap? It's not my favorite color but it's not silver like most Boxsters from that era, it's got a manual trans... what gives?

He's juggling the price to get it to show up as newer on facebook marketplace.
It's so cheap because you can buy an S for sub 10k. You can buy the 1 gen newer for 10-15k...
The first gen is the IMS bearing failure one, if it has not been repaired then the price is way lower.
944's are through the floor unless it is an S2 or Turbo, which now go for over 10k.
914's have started to be "well E36 M3 I cannot afford a 70's 911, i'll buy a 914 instead" and so many rusted away there are not many left.
IMS bearing aside (and isn't that like, less than 5% of the cars?), it's pretty much impossible to beat these cars for the money. It's not THAT much more than an a good NA Miata, but it has a lot more power, a lot better sounds, a lot more mid-engine-ness, and a lot more Stuttgart.

After failed attempts to contact this guy through my son's Facebook account, I'm trying to figure out how you had a conversation with him at all that got you excited. He's a pretty lousy communicator.
4 separate times asked for a phone number- none. And the guy never answered the questions we asked. Just gave random answers to questions we didn't ask.
Not to mention the whole "false advertising" thing...
