Selling my 2002 Ford E350 van, which has the 7.3L Powerstroke turbodiesel. This is a great old-school tow vehicle.
Good: Runs great, well maintained, frame and running gear are solid. Everything works. Chateau package, full interior, seats 7.
Bad: Has some rust at the bottom of doors and rocker panels.
More Info: I'll post more photos soon. I'm the second owner, I bought it in 2014 with 170k miles IIRC. 240K on the clock now. I'd not hesitate to drive it across the country or tow something across the country tomorrow. It does need some TLC on the details. And the rust situation.
The deal: There The deal: There aren't a lot of these around so I don't really know what to ask for it . I have a $4k offer from a local buyer. There are a few 7.3 E350's on AutoTrader asking like $20k (!) but they are in CA and no rust so that's not really comparable. If you think I could get $6k or more, or if you might offer $6k or more after you get more details, let me know.
A lot depends on condition and maintenance. I have a pair of 7.3s. How's the turbo, downpipe, fuel bowl, fuel lines, hpop, injectors, glow plugs, oil pan, and on and on. These love to leak and any real attack on oil leaks usually requires an engine pull. FWIW, I've seen vans in the DC/Baltimore area go on sale for as low as 2500, but also as high as 10k.
Oil pan was new when I bought the van, looks fine now.
Both high pressure oil lines to the cylinder heads were just replaced after a major leak.
All the rest is running fine and not leaking, but that's all I know. I think maybe I usually add 1 quart of oil between 5k changes? Not more. It starts every time even in deep winter, I almost never use the block heater.
I have detailed maintenance records. I do much of the work myself but the big jobs like those oil lines go to the local fleet service place.
I've owned two of those 'stroke vans and loved them. Also had a 7.3 F250 and a step van with the IDI 7.3.
That thing will run to 350k easily. My last van had 275k and aside from a few $60 GPRs and one blown turbo hose, it never needed anything.
I'm sitting here repeating in my head "don't buy this, don't buy this, don't buy this."

I would like to see some interior pictures and maybe some pictures of what the rust situation looks like. (I can PM you my phone number if you would rather text them)
How bad are the rockers? Are the all the way rusted out?
What is the tow capacity on these?
In reply to Somebeach (Forum Supporter) :
Should be 10k towing
Yeah I recall 10k lbs tow capacity. It tows my toyhauler, 7500 lbs loaded, just fine. Feels very secure, easy to drive, runs down the road great. Just not super fast up the big hills. I installed a large trans cooler so trans temps are not an issue.
Here are a bunch of photos. Let me know if there is more you want to see. I'm sorry I haven't washed the van or cleaned the interior, I thought photos soon is better than better photos later. :-)
Huh, I'm trying to figure out how to post multiple photos... I'll get them all eventually.
What's the undercarriage look like?
Photos of undercarriage here. I have sprayed it with sheep snot (Fluid Film) almost every year. In my opinion it is all quite solid. The photo of the right frame rail around the battery box is IMO the worst spot as far as the frame is concerned.
Wow, crickets.
Did that photo of the frame and battery box scare folks away? I guess I should have sprayed it with oil before I took the photo. The chassis is all solid, just surface rust. Not like the body. :-(
So I should take the $4k local offer? What do you think?
I would make an honest and clear ebay ad. Set a high reserve. If it meets reserve, congrats. If it doesn't, the highest bid is the price you know at least one person will pay.
I do that for all of the stuff that is kinda hard to put a value on. In your case I would list it with a $250 initial bid and a reserve of $7500. If it bids up to $6000, you know you can slap a sign on it that says $5000 and put it in your front yard and it will sell.
Every once in a while I do that trick and some sucker clicks buy it now and I feel like a high roller.

I'd love one of these but that rust is unforgiving for someone like me.
I am in the same boat, like you said the frame looks like surface rust. But the rust on the body seems to be creeping further up the rocker/quarter panel, than I had envisioned in my mind.
Still seems like a cool van.
Having spent more than half of my life in PA, the rust is a bummer, but fortunately there are a few million E-vans in junkyards that could donate panels.
The thing that keeps me away is that I detest body work, even if it's simply hanging body panels.
What's the MPG like on the highway not towing?
In reply to trigun7469 :
Mine got anywhere from 18-22 empty. It will probably depend on what gears are in his

I am still talking myself out of this van, but is the second row captain's chairs?
Any pictures of the rest of the interior? One of the reasons I am keeping an eye out for a van is plenty of room for the kids in the second row.
Here's another interior picture. The carpet is not clean but the interior is otherwise good, no tears or stains on any of the seats. A couple small divots in the headliner from hauling furniture. The rear a/c has been disconnected but the front a/c blows cold.
It has captains chairs in the middle row and a 3-wide bench seat in the rear .
It has the 3.55 rear end. I don't know that it ever gets 22mpg as somebody said, but I believe I have seen 18 on the freeway when not towing.
The black stickers on the windows are velcro for insulating / privacy screens from when we camped in it. Easily removed. The red things on the floor are covering the bolts for the rear seat. As you can see I have not yet put any effort into cleaning it up for sale. Was moving furniture with it this weekend.
