Hey guys and gals, keep your eyes open for me. Looking to buy a 66/67 GTO, LeMans, or Tempest convertible. Must be complete but can be missing engine/transmission. Willing to pay up to $4000 for a good project with title. I'm in Carlisle PA but would be willing to travel for the right one.
Doesn't have to be numbers matching.

Curtis: I have a '67 LeMans ragtop in my garage. 326/2bbl/poeerglide, not that that matters. Dad bought it new for Mom on Christmas of 1966. Been in my clutches since 1981 or so. Rally Red over Parchment bench seat interior with good black top. Rallye II wheels. Older restoration; 268,000 miles.
It's been rusty in its life, but it's been indoors for the last 20 years at least. Not a show car, but it has a clean title, and is complete. Located in northern Delaware.

If you're interested I can upload some pics. Ran when parked, all that good stuff. This is the pretty side, the other has a light sideswipe at the rear of the right side QP. This pic is a little more than 15 years old, but it's been driven less than a thousand miles in that time and it's been in the garage for the rest of it.

More current pics. Sorry about the CL-quality cell phone shots in the garage.

Hrm, OK, interesting decision to invert some of the images, there.
Hahaha... I was tilting my head all kinds of ways
What are you asking? I'm interested.
Frame solid?

What I'm asking may be the problem. I've been directly involved with it for 48 of my almost 50 years on the planet. We'll have to discuss a price that addresses both my emotional attachment and the real, objective value of the car, which I assume aren't exactly the same.
The frame has 2 spots of rust - right below the doorjambs on each side, in front of the wheel arch turn up. I had them plated with heavy steel, and it is no looser than any 4-decade-old convertible. It's not swaybacked and the doors function fine. However, you would want to revisit this work just to be sure.
I have a pretty hard cap of $4000. It may be worth more, its just that 4k is all the blood I could squeeze out of the turnip right now.
Only other thing I could think of is to throw in an 86 El Camino, but I was going to use the $2k from selling it to fix up the LeMans.

Well, I don't need the Elky, but that's in the ballpark. It needs to get worked on and driven, not parked and ignored.
Well, let's keep our brains together on this one. I'll see if anyone wants an Elky and maybe I can come up with more cash. In the meantime, do you mind if I make a voodoo doll of you and poke at it until you cave at $4k?
(just kidding. I don't believe in voodoo.)

Looks like I need to post want to buy threads here. I'm pretty shocked Curtis got a solid response right off the bat!
Anyone have a 65 Riviera, any condition, they want to part with?
Curtis, let me know if you want me to lay eyes on this one:

Sucks he didn't post pics, not the year range you were looking for, and sounds like a major project. But real GTO's in the $3k range are getting more and more scarce, and generally rust here isn't near as bad as in other parts of the country.
http://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/4776057681.html $1050

I'm kinda leaning away from an actual GTO. First, its the same car with a different option package, and since I won't leave it stock anyway, no point in paying the premium for the name. Secondly, the level of modifications that I might do would be a little over the top for an actual GTO. No point in hacking one up that could be restored.
You just get so much more car for the money if you go LeMans or Tempest.

Thanks! I would maybe consider a 65, but 64 has the horizontal headlights and I'm not a big fan.

Even if you need to scrape together pennies from community fountains to pull it off, Duke's car looks to be a much better starting point than about anything else you'll find in the price range.
All I have to say is, KEEP A PONCHO DRIVETRAIN IN IT!!!!!!!

Your opinion is noted and ever so politely declined.
It will at least stay GM if that helps. I could put GTO engine covers on the LS6 that its getting. The original 326/glide will be lovingly placed on a dolly and kept for taking it back to stock if the need arises someday.
Duke and I are talking via email. Fingers crossed.

In reply to curtis73:
Sell the 326/glide combo to someone with a 67 firebird. You definitely need to drop a 400 or 421 Poncho in there. berkeley LSx crap. Worst swap idea ever.
If I did any classic iron V8, it would be a Buick 455 or Caddy 500. Could always do a 6.7L Powerstroke.
hey Duke, if my jedi mind trick is working, you want to trade for my E12:

Oh, damn. Your Jedi mind trick is working, but the point is to thin the herd a bit, not acquire a different project. That thing is sharp, though.
Curtis and I have come to terms (it wasn't hard) and it looks like sale is pending.
