1970 Subaru 360 Van runs and drives with numerous spares. No Title Bill of Sale only. Van shows 17,800 miles. Located in Central IL asking $8500.
Fairly solid body, chassis in good condition. Brakes are present and function but need attention. All Glass on van is uncracked. The front windshield shows a few spots of delamination on the passenger side vertical edge. I planned to inject them with epoxy when / if the windshield was removed from the van.
Interior and most trim removed for restoration/paint. Installed gauges work. Van is currently in primer but has metal work still required. I have not laid eyes on every interior trim part so I cannot guarantee everything is there. I know I have the front bumper but am not sure the rear bumper is present.
Overall the body has minimal corrosion, with some through corrosion at the edges of panels. The floor/sills/window frames seem very solid. The bottom edge of the doors shows some perforation. A small impact to the rear lower quarter panel was poorly repaired and would need redone. Probably the worst of the corrosion from a repair perspective is thinning and perforation of some of the roof near the pinchweld.
The van starts and runs well. The stock fuel tank is bypassed with a boat tank in the back but is present, condition is unknown. The Oil Injection system appears to be working. Transmission shifts into all gears and all seem to function with limited driving. The clutch needs attention. The mechanism functions but needs internally adjusted.
The suspension and chassis are in good shape. Wheel bearings seem tight without play. Minimal corrosion exists on the chassis. All 4 wheels hold air and tires have good tread but are about 10 years old.
The brakes were locked up when I got it. All cylinders were removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Seals appeared to be in decent condition but dust caps were perished and are not present at this time. Star wheel adjuster lock tabs were also corroded and are not present on most wheels. New Old Stock front Shoes were installed and the rear shoes were serviceable. The system holds fluid and all 4 brakes actuate, however there is air in the system. The brakes function if the pedal is pumped and the van stops decently and straight but obviously further attention is required here.
Spare parts that come with the vehicle are from a 2nd complete van that was disassembled by a previous owner. Condition or useability of these components is not guaranteed; they simply exist. Most of the interior trim, switches, wiring, 2nd set of seats are included. All doors with glass (Side windows/rear window but no 2nd windshield), 4 suspension arms, 3 complete brake assemblies, and 4 spare drums and wheels. A 2nd engine crankcase and transmission are included. This includes the clutch assembly, flywheel, and throwout bearing cover assembly. The top end of the engine was removed and is not present. The spare transmission rotates freely but the crank case was filled with water at one time so at a minimum any internal parts would need refurbished if useable. There is a spare gastank. The filler for sure is rusted, but it exists and may be worthwhile to repair.
The general condition of the structure and solid mechanicals make this an ideal candidate for a restoration. I can only issue a Bill of Sale for this vehicle. Value is difficult to pin down on these particularly in this condition. This van is not in display condition at this time, but does run and drive. I am asking $8500
I plan to get more pictures of the underside of the van. I can get any more pictures or share any information I have.
