My Norwegian businessman friend, the late Erik Henriksen entered a 968 Turbo S as No 38 in the GT3 category in the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans with co-driver Justin Bell.
The car struggled against the 964 RSRs, and Erik told me at the time that the motor had an inherent crankshaft balancing problem that manifested itself close to the red-line under constant full throttle conditions as experienced on the Mulsanne Straight. The factory engineers knew that this could destroy the engine and recommended coming off the throttle slightly for a few seconds halfway down the long straight before resuming full throttle.
In the end the car did not finish the race.
