Triumph STAG swap out the original motor and trans put a chevy 350 in to eliminate the cooling problems . Built in roll bar plenty of trunk space .
Years ago I had a friend with a Stag that put in a 327. It was so much heavier than the motor that came out of it that it was a total pig to drive. Afterwards it simply sat. Hopefully they have improved in weight, I'm not sure of the difference between a 327 and newer 350, but that is a major consideration.
A mercedes slc, maybe I am biased though. You did say practical somewhere right. The only issue with the slc is the weight but they put good engines in them despite some who decide to put american power in there.
There is a cortina that drives around my neighborhood so they are out there. The only way I can tell it is the funky lights.
I did a 13.3 at grm 2006 challenge , i should of had a pro driver all i did was squeal the tires and over drive it in the cones deal . www.fastpitstops.com check the gallery http://fastpitstops.com/galleries.htm
What about this car, guys? I know it isn't a "real" 510,but I like it,and it fits my criteria in that it is unique in look, color, model, and it is in great original shape. Is $3500 too much? I guess the two door hatchback was only an option for this one year (78),and it has a dogleg transmission pattern. It is in TX,and I have a friend looking at it for me this weekend. It is on ebay as well, but I am contemplating giving him a deposit to take it off ebay.

Chris
It's probably way less desirable than a "real" 510, but I'd probably jump on it, just cause it's cool, unusual, and appears to be in really good shape.
Nice survivor. It'll only ever be viewed as an oddity and appreciated mostly by the few who used to have one new. When you go to sell it someday, you may have a struggle. But, it's a nice car for the price. I'd find that as fascinating as the Dodge Colt we had at a show this year. I like unusual stuff, but not enough to buy something like that.
Looks a little ugly , nice but I know where a toyota celica is for same $ in florida way cooler and original owner 60 k miles , you gotta run high test though
$3500 today is yesterdays $7000
Ugly,or not I bought it for $3100. I just need to pay for it now,and get it shipped from nice warm TX to cold, salty MA. I should have it in time for X-mas. Now I need to sell the REPU even though I would rather keep it. My RX-7 isn't going anywhere.
So what happened to this thread? It was going along real nice, until I showed my ugly 510. The car should be in my garage by the end of the week. The shippers website says it is about 2 hours from me right now,and in transit,so it should be to the hub sometime today/tomorrow,and I will need to pick it up with a trailer sometime after that.
