For those who don't know already, i have a '68 Corvair project. It's a long ways off, but I like to think ahead.

I would like to get a set of Driving (clear) or Fog (amber) lights for the Vair that are close to period correct for the mid 70's when my dad originally built the car.
I haven't decided on Round or Square, but I want to mount them to the underside of the bumper.
The bigger issue is that I don't want to shell out $200-$300 for a set of lights that could eventually be damaged by a stone or road debris.
I looked at Cibie, Marchal, and Lucas. All ridiculously expensive. Even for older worn out lights people seem to want a premium for them.
So does anyone have any suggestions for affordable lights that could work?

I got a pair of Cibie rectangular lights on Ebay for $25. It took some waiting and searching but you can occasionally find a deal.
Driving lights are available everywhere and they haven't really changed enough to be period correct or incorrect. Hit eBay or the FLAPS and buy away.
If you want used rather than new, hit the BMW or Porsche 914 forums. Square under the BMW bumpers, round under the 914s, both made by Bosch, both quality items.
I prefer the 914 lamps. Big, flat, bright, and fairly cheap considering the quality and manufacturer.

I bought some amber square fogs from walmart for $10 a couple of weeks ago. They had glass lens with plastic housing, so maybe no one would know they were not period correct without closer inspection?
The cool thing about them is they take 100w h3 bulbs without any extra work and they work pretty well. Just make sure to seal the reflector to the glass with RTV to keep water out if you actually do go this route LOL
Also interested in this. Been using HF and Walmart lights which work ok but the build quality sucks, and the provided wiring ia awful. Never been happy with cleanliness of install.

How about spot lights from a P71, all metal and glass and are very cheap used. The company is called Unity, they have been making lights for ages.
