That is cool and would be my style. A friend of mine is just finishing a P1800 restoration but he's done everything totally original. I'll have to post this to him and see his reaction.
WOW! What an amazing project. I love everything this guy is doing, except for the humongous wheels. Change the wheels to 16s or 17s, and it would be perfect.
I felt really disappointed when I saw the fins taken down.
A red P1800 was our family car when I was growing up - I love that car. A stock looking car, with an uprated engine and suspension would be ideal for me.
It's still quite the project though, I can appreciate that!
Robert's been working on the car (on and off between many other projects) a little over a year, not just two weeks. The thread that was linked in the OP is only a couple weeks old but he's been tinkering with it since around the beginning of 2010. Earlier tonight we discussed a Mustang II based front suspension he's been trying to adapt to get the geometry correct with the ride height he's trying to achieve. He's not a member here as far as I know but I'll send him a link to this thread .
I happen to love the original look of the P-1800 and 1800S models. It's a crime what has been done to this car. Why not start with a wrecked car and wreck it some more from there? I'm not criticizing the guy's talent. But he's purpetrated a major crime against vintage sports cars. Maybe George Barris or Gene Winfield would be proud but what he's done is an embarrassment to our hobby. There aren't many of these cars left but now there's one less!
Yes please send him a link to this thread so he can read my opinion.
I love his work, and admire his fearlessness in cutting up the car. I really like the rendition design he is shooting for, though I personally would have kept more of the factory details and design elements, but that may be just me. I like modified cars with stock body work and trim. The major dissappointment for me was the choice to go with a Chevy v-8 engine. The Nissan inline six was a cool choice, but if that didn't work, I think something more imaginative that a Chevy V8 would befit a project such as this.
