There will be quite a few magazine staff members on site at Amelia. They should be a good resource on site.
Also, the March issue of Classic Motorsports had a visitors guide to the Amelia Island concours. It should still be available on newstands, or you can call us in the office to have a copy sent to you.
Thanks Tom, the magazine article is what gave me the idea to go. My wife and I were looking for a place to go in March when it showed up in the mail. I showed it to my wife and she said OK. Now I'm looking for a little insider info as to where to eat , things to see etc. She likes car stuff but all the time.
Welcome to the forum Rhodyspit75. Now I know there's more than one Spitfire in Rhode Island. They're kind of rare around these parts. My '68 has been in rehab for a few years. Have a good time at Amelia Island. My wife and I will be in Florida during that time as well but we'll be down the coast in Pompano Beach. We need the warmth of South Florida this time of year.
Amelia gets crowded around the middle of the day but thins out later. Late in the day is a great time to really take in everything. Other than that, bring a camera, wear a collared shirt, and have a good time.
We like hanging out in Fernandina Beach. It's about 10-15 minutes from Concours headquarters. It is a cool old Florida seaport with a neat downtown, good restaurants, a bit of night life and less expensive than the Ritz. We get there Friday morning. At the Ritz, the seminars are cool, as is previewing the auction and the people you run into are cool. You are very likely to just bump into guys like Brian Redman, Alain DeCadenet, Mario Andretti, etc.
Yeah, make sure to walk the grounds of the Ritz during the show. The auction preview tent is usually set up behind the hotel, so it can be a little hidden. Also, there's always a nice art display inside the hotel. Many of the folks there will be dressed nicely, or in period clothing. If your wife gets into that sort of thing, she should have a blast. (think more Great Gatsby, less American Graffiti)
Have a great time, and remember to stop by the CMS booth to say hello!
