The year is not a line in the sand, just a dart board. I have been driving the family 1982 BMW 320 for the last couple years and I can not understand why more of the more mature cars are not being driven at events like these.

Yes, the older cars are not competitive with the current offerings but I get more comments and encouragement that when I am driving a newer car. I also share the events with my 25 year old daughter, this is her third year and when the "race car", a 1975 BMW 2002 EP , is finished she will be ready to transition.

Having a group to run in that is sympathetic to the older cars is the first step. Attached is the link to what we went threw to make it happen.

The Historic 2 group is a work in progress, we are looking at including cars that fall off the SCCA current stock 30 year list. The new tire rules make this easier to sell.

I love older cars. I moved "up" from my FSP 2002 to a Street Modified E30... Looking forward to prepping the 2002 for X Prepared.

Back in 2000, I built an 85 VW GTI for the Grassroots Motorsporrts 2K challenge. I never got the car done in time, but it served as my autocrosser for the next 5 years. Somewhere around 110 hp and a ton of fun. Could not match any of the other cars in its class at the time, but I drove the stink out of it and learned a ton.

I ran about 6 events this year in my '72 VW Beetle. Interesting proposal, though I really don't give two E36M3's about how well I do in my class. It isn't (competitively) fast, but I built it, and I have at least as much fun as anybody else at the events.

I started in a 83 RX-7 in CSP, I now drive a 80 Spitfire in EM. The newest thing I have ever driven at an autocross is a 89 Thunderbird SC in FS.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Good luck setting it up.

As much as I love my Miata (slight sarcasm there) I'm really looking forward to AXing my 75 Nova...
Will it be anywhere near as quick?
Hell no!
Does it need to be done?
Hell yes!

The first few autocross events I did in 2009 were in my '78 Spit 6. It was... interesting... I switched to my TDI for a few events and then finally the '07 MINI 'vert... before regressing to an E30...

After I replace the steering rack in the '64 Mini, I plan to do some events with it. Partly because I want to see how the car behaves at cornering limits.

If you have a classic Mini, you have to autocross it. They're hilarious. And fast. Corner entry speeds are ridiculous.

I'm going to be dodging cones tomorrow. I could drive the Locost or the turbo Miata - but I'm going to take the MGB instead. It'll be slower, but it's going to be an interesting challenge.

I recently purchased another 1980 TR8 to add to the wedge collection. This one has been considerably modified with beefed up 3.9 engine, suspension and 7" wheels and apparently was used by a previous owner for autocross. Not sure how it will work for autocross but I'll have to give it a try sometimes.
