We found this 1961 356b sunroof coupe for sale at a dealership called Lombardo Motorcars in Berlin CT. We went there for a dealer visit, just to meet the owners and check out the cars they had on offer. This 356 is a 1600 Super with a matching number engine. Unlike a lot of the previous car catcher offerings, we actually had a chance to drive this car and see it in person. It has some paint and body issues but is completely usable as a driver. We cruised in the car for about 20 min and had no issues. The gaps are good and the car is very solid having new correct floor pans correctly installed. The asking price is only $35,000, making it one of the best deals we have seen in quite awhile for a driver level 356b coupe. More information is available here

Only $35,000? I know they fetch big bucks nowadays and this is probably a fair market price, but I sold my last one for $6000 in 1987. Having owned a couple they're just glorified VW beetles/Ghias and I just can't wrap my head around what they are selling for now.

I too am just floored by 356 prices as well, although I do think they are more than a glorified VW. I passed on a 356SC in 85 for $3500 but unlike other car nuts I don't regret it. I would have sold it once it hit 25K. They are expensive to put right and given the rust rate they are not near as many around..........................the bottom may drop out of them at some point but I don't expect it to. "I" think they are overpriced for the level of performance. 35K for a decent driver is on the low end of what people are paying.
A 356 is still one of my favorite cars...................but I could by a Cayman S for what a good one goes for.

I know the prices are high these days but these days this is a very good deal for a driver, especially a matching numbers sunroof coupe. Nt sure we will ever see these prices drop. The 356 cars are just too good a car. They do everything you want a classic car to do and also do everything you wan a daily driver car to do and are amazingly reliable and cheap to maintain.

IMO the only way 356 prices will drop is if the bottom falls out of the classic market, and even then they're affordable enough that ones like this are bought by individuals as drivers instead of traders/dealers as investments, so they won't get hit as hard as some cars would.

I'd take an AC911 for similar money, but it looks like a pretty good 356 for what you'd pay.

Andy regardless of price the 356 is still the car I would pick if I was told I could have any classic I wanted. I suffer a similar dilemea with bikes, my one bike I want is a Kriedler GP bike but those are on the pricey side as well. For the same money I can get a classic TZ250 or RG500 (street bike). Natrually if I was selling a 356 I'd insist the were worth top dollar.

I am actually not the seller, I just found it at a dealer. It is the best deal I have seen on a good running solid 356 driver, especially a matching numbers car.
