During the ’70s, pro racing grids were all about big wings and even bigger flares. Squint and maybe you could find the donor car hiding inside–perhaps a Porsche 911, Mazda RX-7 or BMW 3.0 CSL. The Chevy Monza was also part of that exciting scene.

I remember at a 6 hour race at the Glen Chris Economaki interviewing a Monza driver over the trackside p.a. system. When he asked "What is the same on this car as the buyer can find on a Monza at the local Chevy dealer?", the answer was "The roof and the name." It was the only time I ever heard Economaki at a loss for words.....
