Twenty years or so ago, I use to drive my Sunbeam Alpine as a daily driver. As it was a rust free car, I wanted to keep it that way and in an attempt to keep water entering from above (rain), I found and purchased a cover that went over the roof, windshield, rear wiindow, and side glass. It was held in place by the windshield wipers in front and elastic straps with hooks on the four corners which could be stretched and secured to the fender edges.

As we are preparing to take our rust free TR8 on a road trip, I was thinking it would be nice to find such a cover once again. But alas, all I can find is a cover to fit over the top of the car when the convertible is down. Has anyone seen a cover as described above?

Thanks, Tony

Any local upholstery shop can make one. You might contact these guys:

http://www.1restoration.com/

They make them for other marques.

They are available for Miatas. Check their vendors.

They're available for earlier TR's and Spitfires on Ebay, but I don't know about the TR7/8. Search for "Traveling Cover".

IMHO, the cost is a bit excessive... and I wonder if something similar could be made from scratch for less... maybe out of nylon tent material...

The ones on Ebay are from the shop I listed. If they have a TR7/8 to make a pattern, then they'll do it. The owner of the business is a member of the local british car club, so he should be able to borrow a car if he is so inclined.
