Guided tours

I voted self-guided because I do this more often than any guided tours. I often have other drivers join me and that adds a lot. Maybe it could be called a guided tour when there is a convoy. I think the Orange Blossom Tour is a fine idea. My road trips usually end at a car show or gathering of some kind.

Ditto like to travel at my own pace, but 1-2 times a year we'll do the group thing.

On the whole I prefer the self guided tour. That is usually code for blasting through hilly areas and not really touring, and what I prefer overall.

I did the guided group trip once, with some TSD rally elements thrown in, and it was near where I live and work. I was able to see some things I didn't otherwise know existed, and it was great fun. Its also cool to be a convoy of vintage cars.

I have a plan for a country-wide tour. It is a series of stops or hotels where each stop is a small car show. Drivers can pick up the tour at any time and drop off at will. How they get to the stop is up to the driver. Local enthusiasts set up the hotel for the show, pit stops and the drivers just rent a room. There are no fees but the public and local displayers would be expected to donate to a worthy cause. I hope to do this after I retire and before I lose interest. Cheers Ron

Trying to herd a bunch of cars into various scenic stops and such is a remarkably difficult thing to do.

That's called the Hot Rod Power Tour, and it's a very cool event. I thought of the same thing, only I'd call it the "Lack of Power Tour" and make it for only non-muscle cars (vintage American and sports cars). I think it's a great idea.

As a guy who just organized a tour (with lot of help from fellow staffers), I can attest that it is a remarkable amount of work and last minute weather changes, bad wait staff and construction can take a perfect plan and mess the day up. I had no idea the amount of work it was going to take to out that OBT on. The good news is I think I have gotten probably the best story ever published, on putting on rallies and tours coming out of all this hell. Stay tuned.
