A great find

I did my driver's license on my mother's mini 850 at age 16. I owned a 998cc and 997cc Coopers and a 1071 S back in the early 70's in my early 20's. Talk about rare minis today. I still love minis and always will, but would I ever want another one - not so sure.

Nice! What's the plan? Race or street?

Planning to have it ready for the Tour de Marque at Watkins Glen next year? My little group should have 5 cars there next year: 3 Minis and 2 MINIs. Of course, I still need to find/buy one (a Mini - yes, I registered for an event for which I don't have the car yet... )

I used to own a 1972 Mini with a 1275 in it with twin SUs and an LCB exhaust. It was a lot of fun, autocrossed it, toured a little in it. It always got waves no matter where I drove it.

Here's another update: after getting it home, we started going through the parts it came with.

The car was actually in pieces. The goal was to make sure everything was there to make it a complete car again.

Will the top be Black? If so it would be an Identical twin to my 67 1275 Morris Mini Cooper S. I'd send a pic of mine from 69 and 70 but I don't see that option here. The Italian PO had prepared and may have even run the Mini in the 67 Alpine Ralley. He sold it because he got a ride with Lancia driving an HF.

Wonderful car. Twin gas tanks, widened white wheels with 175s, Recaro seats, custom dash, Abarth Exhaust. The lighting included two Cebie Super Oscars, Lucas flame thrower fogs, Hella driving lights and Marchal Halogen Headlights. Running everything would kill the battery in 30 minutes driving. Drove it all over Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands. Best drive? Around Nurburgring 12 times during a 5 Marks you can drive the course day. Managed to get around in the low eleven minutes on the long course with all kinds of gawkers in their 220 Mercedes Diesels showing where they stood during the big race. Factory Ford had one of their Capris testing and Opel had a Manta. Both were killer cars with huge fender flairs and some serious go fast... But I did on one circuit get to chase them through the Carousels. The Manta went by me at the first, and the Capri passed me just going into the second. The long Straight is only two turns from the second Carousel, the Capri was nowhere in sight... The Cooper was also maintenance whore. (couldn't be the two owners who beat the thing like a drum) Two engines, two transmissions, two brake system failures, and electrical fire in dash, and it needed a new head when I sold it. The valves are so big in the 1275, the valves don't burn, the seat between the exhaust and intake does.

Drove a new Mini. No comparison.
