Apparently it was burned in a crash during a race in the 1950's before the revolution. Been missing all these years. Looks like the engine is missing. I've been to Cuba several times over the past twenty years for winter resort/scuba vacations (Canucks can legally go there any time we want.) There are definitely some interesting old cars on the island.

I recall reading about that car several years ago someplace - it wasn't just found, it's been known about for a while.

maybe you guys are to young to remember Cuba, before Castro,Baptista era 1950s!

a friend of mine, stationed Guantanamo 1952, brought back pix of sex parties with 10-12 yr old boys and girls, totally revolting stuff, and said Cuba was visited by international and american perverts, with plenty of money! life for the people was terrible, and what happened to the victims will not be repeated by me!

Castro made it a much better place, for the people to live, lets hope things will be different, now that relations have been opened up!

In reply to ronbros9:Well said! I think it's well past the time that we who are immigrants into North America admit, we're anything but perfect! That being said, it's time we quit trying to be the policemen/women of the world. Whether that world be on North or South "America" or not. Nor are we perfect enough to judge those, mostly original residents who live 95 miles off the coast of Florida, which we stole from them.

When we talk about illegal immigration we ignore the fact out forefathers/mothers came here and killed or forcibly removed all those who lived here before we arrived. Giving the already here residents blankets we knew were infested with smallpox wasn't exactly the way to peacefully assimilate into the local population. We are and were the illegal immigrants on this continent! Can't we at least give those who have hugely more native blood a chance to live where their, not our roots actually are?!!

I only went to Cuba for the first time almost twenty years ago when still in my early 40's. Still lots of hookers in Havana but a bit more subtle now. Did go into a dance club were there were lots of aggressive ladies of the night looking for action. Fortunately my wife was there for my protection.

Not doubting you, but according to the article I read the car was just discovered, but was known to be there somewhere.

I'm sure that there are lots of classics to be found in Cuba.

While my Great Grandfather left Cuba over a hundred years ago, likely because as a negrito Cubano he had little hope of a good life, I do know that African Cubans are treated no better today. I really do not want to turn this into a political thread but Castro has murdered and tortured far more people than wildy corrupt Batista ever did. Regardless of past US behavior in South and Central America Fidel and Raul are thugs and we should treat them as such. Mario Andretti said of communism "they all want us to be equal, yea we all had nothing".

It's a beautiful country with some great car and motorcycle culture so maybe some day when the government changes I'll go. My father was stationed at Guantanimo in the 50's (he's 80 now) and still remarks about much he liked it......who knows maybe there are some nice Maserati race cars waiting in a warehouse on the island.

 Tom.
