It may seem hard to believe, but the BMW 3 Series debuted 50 years ago, in 1975 with the E21. The Petersen Automotive Museum celebrates that milestone anniversary with a special exhibit, “The Ultimate Racing Machine.”

I know I shouldn't be surprised because it's the Petersen and all that, but dang, that's a lot of really rad racing history.

If it were me I'd try to expand the exhibit to include other BMW race cars like the 2002 and e9 CS coupes, but even when it's limited to 3 series cars it should be a good exhibition.  The Petersen is on my bucket list, I need to get there one of these days.

It's definitely a must-see. Dedicate a day, though. I went there after lunch (1-ish) and then the staffers there said I had to go. I reminded them I just got there. They reminded me it was after hours. Time will fly there.
