Been driving my 70 Opel GT since I restored it a couple years, doing nothing but regular maintenance on it. Never liked the way the brakes worked, have to plan your stops. Finally figured it was the old brake pads. Basically like new when I got the car running but thinking about it they were installed sometime in the 90's. Car sat for a while in restoration, like years. So decided new brakes were in order and ordered new brake pads. Opel GT Source called me and told me they were out of the front brake pads I wanted and told me how to get them cheaper on Amazon, even gave me the part number. Talked about what I was planning and mentioned I dd a RX8 w/Hawk HPS pads and autocross a Miata with CarboTech pads. So he suggested I look at their oversize master cylinder and booster package that they just happen to have on sale. Needless to say I ordered it with a bigger booster too. Last weekend with new pads and master cylinder in hand, put the GT on jackstands and removed the wheels and quickly determined I wasn't finishing that day and went in to order new rotors. Only got the rear brake shoes installed last weekend along with emptying a bunch of beer bottles with a friend visiting for the weekend. Yesterday with all parts in hand I tackled the front, to change rotors the hub has to be removed to access the mount bolts inside and behind. Repacked wheel bearings while they were out, after all that should be done once in a while. Installed master cylinder and booster, tight fit where it is. Today I bled the brakes, adjusted clutch (was at the top of travel) and changed the oil & filter. Technically all I have to do is slap the wheels back on and it is ready to drive but I'm not finished. Recently picked up a set of BBS Basketweaves in 14X6 to replace the OEM 13X5 wheels. Ordered a set of BFG Radial T/A's with raised white letters in 205/60. Have to run spacers to set the wheel out so it won't rub the upper A-arm in full steering lock so that also means different lugnuts. Will get them when I have the tires mounted. Then it will be ready to cruise in style.

Always liked the lines of those cars. Don't see many of them around.

I had a reasonably productive weekend as well:

Got the rear hubs and brakes on the '64 Mini back together. Took it out for a drive yesterday.

Finished installing the new alternator in the '72 GT6 (had to do a wiring conversion).

Did a compression test on the '88 325is and took it out for a drive. Seems like a blown head gasket.
