No? No one have one they want to give me? Fine Photoshop will have to do for now.

The "Coolest Project No One Has Done" thread came to mind when I saw one of these on Craigslist the other day. I love the look of this car but something just looked a bit off to me on the front, it was just too damn long. But with the big V8 sitting longitudinally in the car, even though it's FWD, makes you need all that length to fit it in. Well I got to thinking, what if you took a Chevy LS4 FWD V8 and put it in transverse style using the whole cradle and rack and pinion steering from a FWD Impala bolted to a shortened front frame section.

A little sectioning of the body up front and it's looking pretty good to me. Make a custom fiberglass hood to further reduce weight and toss the heavy metal fender liners for some plastic units to finish the diet program up front.

Here's some mock ups I was playing around with.

Stock Full Length

About a 6 inch chop behind the front wheels and a couple inches up front and you get this.

Cut some more off and you get this. This might be a bit too much chop though, perhaps a bit too rear biased.

I think you need to trim the rear to make it work.

Middle is best.

However, with it uncut, there is plenty of space for giant turbos.

While you are at it, cut the fenders so that they are more like normal flares and add beefy beefy rubber.

rubber like this

Hell, I just did some quick googling...

Toronado wheelbase is 119 inches, a sprint cup nascar is 110, so you have 9 inches to lose and you could put that body on a nascar chassis like above.

Width wise, Toronado is 78.5 inches wide, the sprint car is 77, so you should be able to cram it within the stock fenders (with surgery)...

That chevelle build was awsome....

dammit, now I want to find a used sprint car and a rusty toronado...

note to self, stay on target, finish your restoration and start a locost...

And possibly chop the top a few inches too.

So something like this (apparently it's available in GranToursimo 6)

Chopping the front, I could see, maybe.

But if you cut the front, rear, reworked the fenders, and chopped the top - why start with a Toronado? At that point it looks basically nothing like what you've started with. Might as well start with a Cavalier body and start cutting.

In 1968 Oldsmobile Engineering and GM Design developed this shortened, two passenger Toronado. XP-866 was a complete running prototype, but was never shown to the public.
