It'll happen. I'm 50 and was a kid when the 510 and 240z came out. I really think it's going to be like everything else--people get old and wealthy and want the cars they grew up with. Once I find work, I think I might get serious about finding a good 2nd gen Prelude (first new car I ever owned).

If you find one, I know where you can find tons of parts

About five or six years ago, I realized that one day, I would want my first car back. My first was a 1988 Accord sedan. When a good deal came up for a clean 1989 Accord coupe optioned the way I would option it, I bought it. The car needed a new transmission. I installed a transmission I had, then put the car in my backyard, because I knew it would be there when the urge hit.

You don't have to be old to want your first car back. The desire has already hit me, and I'm not even 30.

Oh, agreed. I'm just talking about what people will pay at auction. Something like a Lude or Accord might never make big bucks, but I'll bet CRXs will be worth some coin one day. Priced a TR-6 lately? Good ones are getting into the 20s.

I can't imagine how much the Integra Type R will be worth once it hits the auction block. While there are many more powerful Japanese cars from the 90's, I really see the ITR as the hero of the FWD tuner scene.

I think Preludes will probably be close to CRXs, especially the lower production models like the 4WS cars. I do know that both 'Ludes and Accords are already gaining value faster than I expected. They've both bottomed out and bounced back a bit for decent examples. When I first started working on these cars, $500 would buy a perfect, low mile example. These days, a comparable car is an order of magnitude more expensive.

Nah it'll all be all grey hair flat brimmers. They'll be all about the 1/3 prototype parts that were never pictured in a magazine until now because it was a kit on the prototype race car Integra which was rumored to have the fastest unoffical hill climb record for Mt. Fuji and was banned from JGTC because it added too much downforce.

Okay maybe not I'm just cynical from learning to drive right as Fast and Furious came out. But I bet the plethora of HKS and Greddy parts will make it worth more to them. As well as absurd colors.

On a serious note I'm glad that they're adding a Japanese class. It'd be fun to go see nicely restored early RX cars and Z cars.

Really? I could see later Preludes doing the deed one day, because they were more powerful and there'll be fewer unmolested examples (although I think The0retical makes a good point about "old guys" in the future who had modded cars actually wanting modded cars.. ), but stuff like my 2nd gen? Yeah, the cars handled great..they just didn't have enough motor to push them fast enough.

Y'know, when I think about it a little more, The0retical made a better point that I thought it was at first. I'd pay more a modded TR6 or BMW 2002 for more than a stock one, and I'd damn sure buy a 510 or 240Z (or RX-7) with enough tire to fill out the fender well & enough brake to stop the damn thing.

Agree with you about the 3rd gen with 4WS, though. Rare options will always be rare options.

I think running dual carb Preludes might end up being worth more than the rest of the 2nd gens as long as they're running their original carbs. I'm not sure there are any of those left as it is, so they'll have to be put back together, lol.

None of the Accords will ever be worth a ton. If any are, it will be the LXi hatches, SEi coupes, and Phoenix Red DXs. Low production numbers of those, especially the Phoenix Red DX models, would be the only thing that could make them worth too terribly much more than they are worth now.

Of course, we are talking about old Hondas here. They might all rust into the ground over the next 10 years or so.

And where would that be? I need the left side panel that covers the rear of the front window frame and an a/c mounting bracket. An egr control solenoid valve would be nice, too.

I'm fortunate that my '86 has only a tiny spot of rust on the trunk lip and this is on a car that was originally sold in Binghamton, NY and later transported a college student to and from Virginia.

Of course Japanese cars should be classed. I just read where the newest of the new 911s has 4 wheel steer. I guess they must have driven a Prelude.

I'm predicting the money Honda to be a 1st generation CRX SI. I know people who didn't even know an SI existed till the 2nd generation came out. And guess what, the 1st gens. are faster.

Of course the Z Car is the Deuce coupe of my generation. I bought a '71 and found out there was so much out there for it, they even had springs, headers, etc. in the J.C. Whitney catalog!

I know some people believe every car should be 100% as it came from the factory. I've seen XKES lose points for having a GM alternator!! I think that is nuts! Whenever I modify a car I always keep the original parts & make sure the car can be returned to stock. Then I never do it. However I've made a bundle feeding the must be 100% stock market with my cast offs.

I've never owned a car regardless of country of origin that I didn't think could be improved.
