Wasn't there a semi-recent article on these things? This looks suspiciously like it was built on an MGB donor since it is titled as an MGB... Seems like the value is much more than ask on this one.

The Vin plates are probably from an MGB but the frame most likely is not. MGBs are unibody. Seems like a great value though for 1500. If I didn't have the Miata I would go look at it. Honestly I partially suspect a missing 0 has occurred. The rims alone are near that value.

I thought the same about the wheels.

I think this might be a 'Victor' kit. They used all MGB running gear, though not frame, as you are right the B is unibody.

I could swear there was a recent article about these 'Victors'...

Here is is:

The one in this article went for almost 10k, so I agree this might be missing a 0 if it indeed is a victor kit.

Just got off the phone with the guy, he has someone coming to pick it up now, but I am second in line if something falls through (though I very much doubt that). He bought the car as a kit and built it himself. Sounds like a great guy.

He did confirm that it is a victor kit. I assume the person coming to pick it up knows that as well.

Well, a cool piece of history if nothing else.

Was it missing a Zero on the quoted price? Or did you miss the Bargoon of the year?

I'd be all over that. I suspect that the ad was supposed to read $15,000 too.

I'm big on authenticity, but honestly, that's probably a better car than a real MGTF. I never loved the octagonal gauges, but the TF is still my favorite of the T-series MGs.

The TF and the B used the exact same front and rear suspension design. Early Bs used the same transmission and engine block (albeit bored out).

There is shocking little difference between a B and TF as far as running gear goes.

It's interesting that it has a Volvo engine. I looked at a real MGTD barn find last year that had a Volvo B series engine swap. I guess it was actually fairly common swap for MGs back in the day.

I've thought about volvo-swapping mine now...

The owner told me this morning that he thought long and hard about using a flathead (assuming he meant v8) originally instead of the volvo.

Pretty cool. I did not know that.
