The “Covid Rules” British Car Day (at Larz Anderson, Brookline MA) was Sunday, so on Saturday morning I pushed the Tiger out to prep it. It had been running fine on recent drives. I checked tire pressures, fluids, washed the windshield, no puddles  forming under the car, all appeared ready. The show would be much smaller than normal, but it was the first show I’ve been able to attend this year.

Time for a little drive. I got in, turned on the key, letting the fuel pump run for a few seconds. Then I stepped on the clutch and turned… wait a minute, there was no resistance in the clutch pedal. Right to the floor. I pumped it a few times and it started to feel normal again, but…

No fluid on the ground, the master reservoir didn’t appear to have lost much if anything...  I was able to drive it back into the garage without problems.  But there was no way I was going to commit to a drive into the city with a questionable clutch. And nobody local stocks the rebuild kit I would need.  So, game over. And I can’t even go as a spectator because of their virus precautions.

How has your toy car let you down at a key moment? Let’s hear some stories…
