Using a few shakedown laps at a race track to test your car is one thing, but running your car for 100,000 miles at speed is a whole other thing.

Back in 1964, Mercury did exactly that by running a handful of modified Comets for a distance record around the Daytona International Speedway.

Wow, that was quite a stunt! Very impressive for 1964 technology! 

Reminds me of the 93-year-old lady with her one-owner 1964 Comet with 567,000 miles that was in the news a while back.
