Before i start (and make myself look bad) I own a 1970 chevy nova and i currently live in dominican rep. Now here we go.

I will be moving to the east coast of USA in around 5-6 (Newyork/jersey area) and i need a backup plan(car) just incase i cannot ship my car to the states. I really want a cheapish ( I would say my budget MIGHT be around 2-4 thousand or more, depends on how fast i get a job) classic/pony/muscle car.

What i am looking for: Good after market part stockpile AFFORDABLE parts ex: Some mopar parts are just berkeleying hell to find, while you can get another part from another maker that does the same thing for another car for cheap

65-70s body styling (1st gen mustangs and 3rd gen novas are a good example)

Able to withstand daily driving (Well almost all cars can with proper work)

I will be doing a resto mod with the car i buy (So if it needs some mechanical work it doesn't matter, just please not allot of rust.)But if it has the stock engine and it runs then great! If it doesn't..... Well that doesn't matter.

I'm asking this now because i like to be prepared. I was thinking about getting a mustang but i don't know how the market is on those, I might just buy another nova. What do you suggest

Please forgive any grammar and formatting since this is from a phone

TBH I don't think you'll have any issues getting a 70 Nova back into the US.

I know i wont, the problem is something else, personal family related matter. If i can't solve that then i can't send it

edit: Holy, wow. Mustangs are madddddd cheap for a rolling, running shell. ebay is giving me 1-3k decent mustangs with rust in the normal parts. I know ebay ins't the best but still.....

Fair enough.

Unless you like rust and lots of it, I'd consider shopping further south than NJ though.

I don't know what Mustang prices are out East, out here you're looking at a 6 cylinder one if you want to spend 2-4k on a resto project. But at least there is a good chance it's not the Fred Flintstone model.

Aahahahaha! I would say i might be able to go as far as virgina(Or maybe florida if i find someone to take me, and if the car is REALLY worth it) and all the way up to vermont. I am really passionite for cars. I like the look of the 1967 Mustang fastback and the normal 69-70.

I forgot to say i don't want the fastest car ever (Ill be happy with a v6) I prefer looks over power (for classics atleast), but if a cheap v8 shows up then why not. just going to get swapped over anyways....

Any suggestions on something cheap?

edit: I forgot to say i like chargers and challengers.....But those cost a boat load.....

Why atlanta?

And i've seen MANY mustangs with a salvage title going for mad cheap. I know you have to watch out for salvage cars since they always have something unexpected, But if by luck i find a decent salvaged mustang with lets say rear axle problems (easy-ish fix, just pop a new one in) Would it be worth buying with the title?

I don't understand, some mustangs of a different year look different than some mustangs of the same year...... Can someone educate me on mustangs?

Atlanta is considered the mythical source of cheap and rust free project cars around here.

I want a fastback: http://www.mustangdreams.com/mdfastback.htm Mach 1 fastback looks nice.

Whats the status on fastbacks, cheap? hard to find?

Fastbacks are expensive, and most likely a bit out of your under $4,000 price point. However, if you consider a Fox body Mustang from the mid to late 80's to a SN95 model you should be able to afford that.

I dislike fox bodys. How about a mach 1? Do those cost allot?

Good suggestion and i though about it, but i can't get over the front of a maverick, it's too ugly for me.....

The '71-'73 Mustangs (including the Mach 1) generally go for a bit less than the '70 and earlier versions.

The early small bumpers make a huge difference up front.
