Agree with the Volvo. Would add the XKE, MGA/MGB and the Lotus Elan (as long as perfect reliability wasn't hgh on your list).

My 64 corvette hands down drive like a car that is 15 years more modern then anything else I have owned or driven from the early 60's. Its just that good. I can see why people bought them.
I had heard so much about how some classic British sports cars drove amazingly well and I wasn't convinced until I worked at a British car restoration shop. Jaguar E-types are even better than their reputation. The steering feel, brakes, shifting and handling are as good as anything out there and the view from the drivers seat cannot be beat. A well maintained early MGB is also a joy to drive around as well.
